"wow i have a face to face interview with the-dream, let me ask him about every hot new singer"

complex needs to do a street fashion listicle on the most horrendous glasses/shades they've photographed musicians wearing, with the pic at the top of that interview at #1

the ROC video is relatively undorky by his standards

Number None, Thursday, 23 February 2012 20:06 (1 year ago) Permalink

now granted i would've spent the entire interview secretly gathering material for my 33 1/3 pitch on the-dream's entire 2009 output, but still

I will totally pre-order that book.

oh man all of us better be cited like crazy in such a book

"As Dr. Shipley noted on Saturday, January 21, 2010 at 3:07 PM, the concept of 'falltime' is entirely a creation of Nash's imagination."

shockingly unpretentious and pretty fun video

pre-tennis ball head-era chris brown (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 February 2012 03:13 (1 year ago) Permalink

The song just seems like such a non-starter as a single. It's so slight it's barely there, and it runs five and a half minutes. Even in a radio edit, could any station really play this in regular rotation?

Evan R, Friday, 24 February 2012 03:59 (1 year ago) Permalink

no but the last dream single you could say that about was like 6 tries ago

pre-tennis ball head-era chris brown (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 February 2012 04:12 (1 year ago) Permalink

i'm not sure he has a place on rap/r&b radio right now

pre-tennis ball head-era chris brown (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 February 2012 04:12 (1 year ago) Permalink

and i think that says more about the radio than it does about the-dream

pre-tennis ball head-era chris brown (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 February 2012 04:13 (1 year ago) Permalink

I don't think his inability to score a solo hit is an inherently bad thing, of course. It just makes me sad with a song like ROC, which seems to try so hard for radio acceptance but just completely whiffs even as it panders

Evan R, Friday, 24 February 2012 04:16 (1 year ago) Permalink

hmmm i don't see it that way

i guess it doesn't really sound like pandering to radio to me... it's very hardcore r&b which seems to have a smaller and smaller slice of playlists on r&b sections nowadays. it sounds like something off the electrik red or mariah albums, both of which were failures by their own standards. i'm sure he's aware of this.

i mean if he REALLY wanted to pander he could call up trey songz or take some a song he wrote for bieber and try and sing it himself... i think he seems more or less content using his capital at def jam to keep writing stuff that sounds like dream solo stuff, popular now or not

pre-tennis ball head-era chris brown (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 February 2012 04:22 (1 year ago) Permalink

I guess will.i.am and company have just so completely co-opted the word "rock" that I immediately associate it with the lowest common denominator now.

Evan R, Friday, 24 February 2012 04:29 (1 year ago) Permalink

[BTW, Terius is doing the U-Stream thing right now, working on a song that sounds great http://www.ustream.tv/channel/radio-killa-tv]

Let's be honest tho, ROC kinda sucks

i've grown to totally love it

ploppawheelie V (k3vin k.), Friday, 24 February 2012 05:06 (1 year ago) Permalink

the bridge is one of my favorite things that he's done in a long while

pre-tennis ball head-era chris brown (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 February 2012 05:07 (1 year ago) Permalink

ROC's grown on me, but I haven't listened to it next to any other Terius stuff so maybe that's why? I love the interpolation of Da Dip.

I cannot really imagine wanting to go and see him live, I imagine he'd be kinda terrible?

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 24 February 2012 12:42 (1 year ago) Permalink

that does seem 2 be what ppl say...idk i might still go just out of curiousity

johnny crunch, Friday, 24 February 2012 12:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

are you gonna go see him?

well either i will or wont, those are the options as i see them

johnny crunch, Friday, 24 February 2012 12:47 (1 year ago) Permalink

excellent

flagp∞st (dayo), Friday, 24 February 2012 12:47 (1 year ago) Permalink

he was okay when i saw him live - not mind-blowing or anything but not embarrassing. i guess as a support act (to keri hilson lol) there's not much room to fuck up, you just get up there and sing your songs and get off again

lex pretend, Friday, 24 February 2012 12:53 (1 year ago) Permalink

i mean, the fact that he was singing great songs helped, obv

lex pretend, Friday, 24 February 2012 12:53 (1 year ago) Permalink

Roc is just alright on first listen - need to buy it when it comes out to get a better handle in it

Raymond Cummings, Friday, 24 February 2012 13:40 (1 year ago) Permalink

Kinda wanna stay away from SXSW but I might try to see this

Raymond Cummings, Friday, 24 February 2012 13:42 (1 year ago) Permalink

Yeah, he's by no means terrible live. I think I saw him between Bobby Valentino, Keri Hilson and Keyshia Cole, and if nothing else he was better than Bobby Valentino.

My most vivid memory from the show is the crowd sitting down during "Love vs. Money."

Evan R, Friday, 24 February 2012 14:00 (1 year ago) Permalink

"Kill The Lights" is really bad; the production is just anemic :( This is the great single he's naming his tour after?

Evan R, Friday, 24 February 2012 15:10 (1 year ago) Permalink

Lloyd was actually really good when i saw him live
