gravity is on par with adorn
― tundra, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 05:29 (1 year ago) Permalink
wow yeah gravity is great
just listened to "adorn" for the first time in a couple weeks and wow is it still incredible

fyi the estelle album is pretty damn good despite how transparently she wants to be lauryn right down to the classroom interludes about love that you have to program out

diggy is kinda lame but jeremih remains great as usual

"diggy is kinda lame" may be the understatement of the year

are we on "gucci this, gucci that" at all?
sounds like a pretty great throwback to crunk & b to me
and if you're like me you're just pretending that it's the return of vistoso bosses
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 4 March 2012 23:30 (1 year ago) Permalink
wow they've grown since we last saw them
great to see their production strategy continues to be daddy's leftovers

(i knew i'd fuck with it before i even pressed play and it didn't disappoint)
i love the hook & cute happy vibe of "do it like you"
― flopson, Sunday, 4 March 2012 23:40 (1 year ago) Permalink
it's also hilariously comes off as a direct response to "gucci gucci"

is diggy diggy simmons or something? think he was xxl freshmen last year? or is he young money? or both?
― flopson, Monday, 5 March 2012 00:15 (1 year ago) Permalink
definite post-drake vibe
― flopson, Monday, 5 March 2012 00:18 (1 year ago) Permalink
song is straight up adorable though
it would be hilarious if there was more than one kiddie rapper named diggy but yeah diggy simmons just decided to go mononym
jeremih needs to come with that third album already and stop giving hooks to wack rappers to stay on the radio

apparently this leaked in novmeber, but i guess the NO DJ version has leaked now --
pretty interesting line up... t-pain ft petey pablo & magoo + lil jon and fatman scoop shouting shit, but it's kind of a chill joint -- at least for something called "bring the club back"
― J0rdan S., Monday, 5 March 2012 04:43 (1 year ago) Permalink
maybe more rolling pop than rolling r&b but figured the audience for it is here
ignore the first 7 seconds of that video
the fatman scoop shouting is mixed so loud lol, sounds terrible

I kind of love this:

Apparently this guy Marcus Canty was on the American version of X-Factor? At least something good came from that show; I'd buy a full album of this:

There's some pretty good stuff on the new Teyana Taylor mixtape. Solid release.
― Evan R, Wednesday, 14 March 2012 20:29 (1 year ago) Permalink
Some of these Hitboy-produced Taylor tracks are just gorgeous. Not sure how I missed "Gorgeous" when it came out in 2009. "You Know" is really pretty, too.

feeling the melanie fiona album so far. guest rappers could do better without exception though.
did she just channel nina simone there on "bones"?! rather incredible, that one.

hahahaha "6am"!!!

The MF Life is sort of like 2012's answer to Lloyd's King of Hearts for me. A back-to-back strong album that's maybe a few missteps away from being the indisputable masterpiece I really wanted it to be, but still probably the best album I could have reasonably expected.
― Evan R, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:36 (1 year ago) Permalink
I do like how in his guest verses Nas always mentions the name of the artist featuring him. It's a little thing, but that personal touch makes them feel less remote than the usual copy-and-paste verse.

relistening to melanie fiona's debut - so much better than i thought at the time, but i'm remembering why i dismissed it - around that time everyone was doing these chintzy retro 60s sounds, it was kind of like labels were trying to cast around for a non-scary winehouse without the crack and ink, so we got adele and duffy and several others i probably forget, and melanie fiona fit a bit too snugly into that. a few years later it sounds a lot better.
but the mf life is still a huge step up.
