"bleeding love" is great (if a bit maudlin), but those drums are terrible... they're incredibly cheap sounding.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah brainwasher otm about the drums

ive totally surrendered to no air-- personally the song wouldn't work w/o brown's thin, fragile (i guess some people would call it awful) voice

J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:24 (sixteen years ago) link

like if they got a dude singer who could hit high notes and run like sparks it would be way too much

J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:25 (sixteen years ago) link

The wonky drums are my favorite thing about "Bleeding Love," it's the tune that doesn't quite stick with me.

I've poured the haterade on CB plenty of times but I have no problem with him on "No Air," I don't think his voice is necessarily weak on it, just relatively restrained.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Whoa, I didn't realize that "Bleeding Love" had made it to #1: Leona Lewis is, amazingly, the first British woman to hit #1 on the US chart since Kim Wilde in 1987.

jaymc, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link

only in midst of a serious economic downturn could something like "bleeding love" hit #1

Huh? Billboard tells me Mariah is still #1 with Leona #2.

matt2, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Leona was #1 for one week before Mariah took it for the last two weeks.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Oops! I was getting all amazed that it had leaped over Mariah. Although it's still pretty impressive to jump back over Madonna (sure it's 2008 Madonna, but still).

matt2, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I just haven't been paying attention for the last few weeks.

jaymc, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:51 (sixteen years ago) link

wtf radiohead @ 37

danzig, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow. Only their third charting single in the U.S. and first in 12 years ("Creep" hit #34, "High and Dry" #78).

jaymc, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:30 (sixteen years ago) link

OK, this kind of explains it:

jaymc, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:31 (sixteen years ago) link

i'd feel lame linking to Idolator here but Molanphy's column goes into a lot of detail about it:

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 10 April 2008 22:32 (sixteen years ago) link

So I guess this is mad old but I just heard Estelle's "American Boy" for the first time today and holy shit I think I have found my Summer Jam for 08 already.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:35 (sixteen years ago) link

i still can't hear that song without thinking about the Green Acres theme.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:46 (sixteen years ago) link

this new chris brown single is pretty great

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:49 (sixteen years ago) link

"forever"-- another one for r&b gone house

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:49 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah first thing i thought on hearing American Boy was "damn this is straight disco shit"

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:52 (sixteen years ago) link

or just about anyway

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:52 (sixteen years ago) link

it's too light of a song for me. i'm cool with breezy summer jam stuff of course but american girl doesn't really stick at all for me

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:53 (sixteen years ago) link

i think she's got an annoying voice kinda too

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:53 (sixteen years ago) link

The will.i.am song "American Boy" jacks (which is pretty much a straight franco-house rip) is much better than "American Boy".

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:55 (sixteen years ago) link

will.i.am - Impatient

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 04:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Is it a jack if will.i.am produced both?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 05:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah. I don't care who produced the Estelle song, it took my jam and made it suck.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 05:06 (sixteen years ago) link

usually it's the way around with will i am right

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 05:07 (sixteen years ago) link

har har

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 April 2008 05:07 (sixteen years ago) link

ture

The Reverend, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 05:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I realize I need an economy-size late pass on this one, but "Bleeding Love" is pretty damn great. Scuzzy organs! Cavern drums! Yay!

The Reverend, Monday, 21 April 2008 00:41 (sixteen years ago) link

"American Boy" is fantastic. If there was a Rolling 2008 Singles Thread I'd totally put that song on there.

"Bleeding Love," on the other hand, is FUCKING ADULT CONTEMPORARY GARBAGE.

The Reverend, Monday, 21 April 2008 02:03 (sixteen years ago) link

omg my lit prof. started singing "Low" in class today

rev, Monday, 21 April 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I had managed not to hear Sara Bareilles's "Love Song" until recently, but I really like it: I'm kind of a sucker for that kind of straight pounding piano, though.

jaymc, Monday, 21 April 2008 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

So "Bleeding Love" is at number one for the third time. The last time I see that a song managed to reclaim the top spot twice is "Le Freak".

The Reverend, Thursday, 1 May 2008 04:00 (sixteen years ago) link

"Paper Planes" is at #14 on the bubbling under chart (why can't one of MIA's good songs..., etc.)

The Reverend, Thursday, 1 May 2008 04:38 (sixteen years ago) link

"bleeding love" is alright, i keep thinking change an element push it one direction or another it'd be great. that organ is fantastic though. still it's not sophie b. hawkins! i was just adjusting to finding out will.i.am produced 'american boy', nevermind that it's a rework of an older will.i.am track. ye gods. 'impatient' sounded alright (it sounds to me like what it became - a demo), i like 'american boy' alot better for the vocals/chorus and for trimming some of the ideas down. that's sorta crazy about 'bleeding love' dipping in and out of the top spot, itunes obv. how much play is it getting on american idol? is it like 'bad day'?

balls, Thursday, 1 May 2008 04:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Leona performed on last week's results show, but that's been it for her and her song.

musically, Thursday, 1 May 2008 06:24 (sixteen years ago) link

she was also on oprah. and tyra. and they play the video all of the time. and the song is always on the radio.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 1 May 2008 06:25 (sixteen years ago) link

she seems nice and she's cute but she's a little boring, no? and I can't really see her having another hit from spirit.. from what I've heard the album is really dull but maybe I should give it a proper listen

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 1 May 2008 06:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmmm new Chris Brown "Forever" is pretty good.

The Reverend, Thursday, 1 May 2008 06:49 (sixteen years ago) link

total "the way i are" jack but i'm not mad @ it. as long as it gets "with you" off the radio

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 May 2008 06:57 (sixteen years ago) link

i love jesse mccartney's "leavin", glad it debuted so high (#4). I'm tired of chris brown

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 1 May 2008 07:02 (sixteen years ago) link

#14*

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 1 May 2008 07:02 (sixteen years ago) link

otherwise the chart is pretty unintersting this week, I fucking hate that new plies song with ne-yo.

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 1 May 2008 07:03 (sixteen years ago) link

i was O_O for like 5 mins after i found out mccartney co-wrote "bleeding love"

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 May 2008 07:03 (sixteen years ago) link

haha yeah otm about plies song

J0rdan S., Thursday, 1 May 2008 07:03 (sixteen years ago) link

just heard "american boy" and i am feeeling it

gr8080, Thursday, 1 May 2008 11:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I need "Sexy Can I" to go away fast. It is easily my least favorite top 10 song in a long, long time.
