No, I saw her show last night at CalArts and I think she is showing the same movies. I liked some of her work (Britton, SD is great) but there was quite a lot that didn't click for me.

bay cities is great but always crowded and too far away
also joan's on third sandwiches are always A+ imo (good celebrity stalking place too)

this is my local. it's not quite an east coast style italian sub shop, but they do a good sandwich. very limited hours, sadly.

larchmont village wine shop has my fav sandwiches. basic straightforward stuff but done really well. also the gals who make the sandwiches are sweet.

Also - a bar that can reasonably be expected to be relatively quiet (no DJ, jukebox is fine so long as I can hear and get a seat/booth) on a weeknight around Downtown/Eastside. Tall order, I know!

It used to be a real dive when I lived in the neighborhood - my studio was just around the corner. Anyway, it would be great if there was any room. I reminded me of an SF-style bar, why don't we have more of those?

We went to Baco Mercat on Valentine's Day (completely unplanned, we were just walking by), and it is worth all the hype... Didn't get the sandwich, but the baco meatballs and the octopus salad were life-affirming.

Reminds me, though -- we need a place to hang out at in the area before Lou opens at six, since they don't take reservations. Any recommendations?

Buddy of mine got into the Louis CK secret show at the Improv last week. How'd he do that? Well he just showed up and paid the doorman $10. Got to meet Aziz Ansari and Elijah Wood afterwards.

my recommendation is to hang out in a different part of hollywood, because that stretch is a little desolate. either that or just drink at the bar until people arrive.

Dammit, all the podcasty shows I want to hit are sold out. Waiting in the airport for the flight down to Ontario now.
