d'angelo - voodoo - classic or dud?

New Amerykah Part One and BLACKsummers'night are really the precedents i'll be folding my arms waiting to see if this can live up to, more than Voodoo

i'm not super excited by the idea of more rock & pop influences, although that's clearly been a part of the shows ('charade', the bowie cover, the guitar stuff, etc.). still totally confident that it's going to be a dope record. at the very least, it'll be interesting - the dude does not half-ass anything, and there's something really engaging about knowing that every note has been considered and obsessed over.

wahtever happened to maxwell? wasn't he all 'oh yeah ive recorded 3 albums to release in 3 years here is the first'?

yeah that is VERY frustrating to me, i loved that album and i'm like c'mon where's the rest

maybe he's just waiting for chris dave to be done touring with d'angelo, erykah, and everybody else?

THIS. I'm still going back to BLACKsummersnight regularly. 'Bad Habits' and 'Pretty Wings' are impeccable.

Looking forward to a new D'angelo album but listened to Voodoo again recently and well don't think it's very good to be honest...not terrible but not great...

There was nothing tentative about D’Angelo’s performance.
