Would love to see them at Tate Modern or similar in London. I saw them at Tribal Gathering '97. I was in the 'Detroit' tent most of the day but they shut that down for an hour or so because none of the acts (Terrence Parker, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson etc.) would play during Kraftwerk. They were late coming on and then.. BOOM!

xpost I dunno, I can 'get behind' people thinking "we wait all that time, and it's pretty much what we'd expect", but apart from that I can't detect a massive drop in quality.

The kids were doing the 'B-boom-TCK!' after I'd had a KWork splurge in the car, a few years ago.

Again - as I said upthread - I cannot imagine this would be the only performance of these shows - it does not seem to make any kind of business sense to rehearse and do the programming for all these songs for just a one-off in a smallish venue.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 17 February 2012 10:45 (twelve years ago) link

the entirety of their "business sense" over the last 30 years has been "it interested Ralf at the time" though

Θ ̨Θƪ (sic), Friday, 17 February 2012 12:33 (twelve years ago) link

hmmm, see, no disrespect to Ralf (and Florian) but I have the feeling that most of their activity in the last 10 years has been somewhat financially driven (which doesn't take anything away to how awesome it's all been)

I remember someone once saying that the accent they use on "Autobahn" is 'strong dusseldorf' which is their version of 'brummie'

Which means, to their home nation,

sounds like

I hadn't realized they'd been touring a 3D show for a bit now

Brakhage, Sunday, 19 February 2012 07:20 (twelve years ago) link

So wait - "selected songs" = not doing ENTIRE album each night? Why did I think they were doing full albums?

Lawanda Pageboy (Capitaine Jay Vee), Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:04 (twelve years ago) link

None of the albums are that long, they can't possibly be taking stuff out.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:19 (twelve years ago) link

I'd be more inclined to believe the MoMA website.

Each evening consists of a live performance and 3-D visualization of one of Kraftwerk's studio albums—Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans-Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (1986), The Mix (1991), and Tour de France (2003)—in the order of their release. Kraftwerk will follow each evening’s album performance with additional compositions from their catalog, all adapted specifically for this exhibition.

They were posh boys tho, esp. Florian, he's virtually upper class

Yes, that was Billie Ray Martin, who is from Hamburg. She said that Ralf's strong accent makes the song slightly comical to many Germans.

more info on the Kraftwerk concerts at MoMA: i'm told that the capacity of the space is under 1000 people

geeta, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:34 (twelve years ago) link

I'm going to be at a computer come noon tomorrow hoping to score tickets, though I won't be surprised if I don't. Worth a try, though.

Mark G, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 07:22 (twelve years ago) link

a Red Krayola that only has Mayo Thompson might be more worth seeing than a Kraftwerk that only has Ralf Hütter.

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 13:47 (twelve years ago) link

Thay'd have to call the evening "Ralf, aber Florian nichts"

If I miss out and someone doesn't take me I will return to the politics threads after Easter.

(j/k, haven't listened to K'werk a ton really)

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 February 2012 14:58 (twelve years ago) link

There's no better time than the present.

it's kind of nerveracking to pick which show to aim for, because if it doesn't work out you know the other shows will sell out while you're hitting refresh and getting the spinny wheel guy.

bene_gesserit, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 15:27 (twelve years ago) link

i feel bad for chickfactor - everyone was all excited for those shows when they were announced but between this and pulp the same week they have had their thunder stolen.
