im kinda bummed cuz i think i sold my copy of 'we'll build them a bridge...' when i sold most of my cds a couple of years ago.

I avoided this guy for a long time cause of the new pornographers stench but in checking out his older stuff I'm not finding most of it kinda boring whereas kaputt is like the greatest thing really. I'm not voting cause I haven't heard some of these tho.

er 'I'm finding most of it kinda boring'

iatee, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:17 (2 years ago) Permalink

it all just sounds like hunky dory

iatee, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:27 (2 years ago) Permalink

Your Blues doesn't sound like hunky dory

also, i voted for Your Blues

ciderpress, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:31 (2 years ago) Permalink

anyway I don't want to troll the thread but the gap between how much I like kaputt and how cold the rest of us stuff leaves me is amazing and I think I might not be the only one?

iatee, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

rest of *the* stuff

iatee, Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

all shit (1996-2011)

john terje (cozen), Saturday, 11 February 2012 22:56 (2 years ago) Permalink

this is hard

probably 'your blues', but i'm only like a quarter as familiar with pre-streethawk stuff as i am with stuff after

i am also tempted to vote for 'trouble in dreams' because no one else will and it is better than the albums before or after it

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

voted this night. it just beats out streethawk and rubies imo. i love the loose, rambling epic feel of it. and it has the best songs.

Me too.

It's not trolling, but it is like voting "Saturday Night Fever" on a Bee Gees poll

Scrutable (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 00:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

"City of daughters" for me. "Streethawk" and "This Night" are the two I don't *loooooove* but merely *liiiiiiike*

Scrutable (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 00:44 (2 years ago) Permalink

Love em all from Thief on (not a fan of the lo-fi stuff, though a few of those albums have some mighty good tunes), voting Rubies.

I voted for 'Trouble In Dreams,' it is a glorious record that is often dismissed by fools. It also includes the incomparably great, fun, and hilarious 'Plaza Trinidad.'

This is gonna be an interesting poll, looking forward to these results. Until Kaputt, I thought the prevailing wisdom was that Streethawk was the masterpiece (though I don't agree, "Sublimation Hour" notwithstanding). Some of you Trouble In Dreams and Your Blues people are going to make this interesting!

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:11 (2 years ago) Permalink

streethawk.boring answer, but true.

nostormo, Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:24 (2 years ago) Permalink

I only know the last 4, and know Kaputt by far the best, which is going to cloud my judgement here...

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 15 February 2012 16:26 (2 years ago) Permalink

This is tough, leaning towards Streethawk narrowly over Rubies and Kaputt.

Wife's in the US at the moment, so I've asked her to pick up Streethawk, which is about £18 on import in the UK.

this night (2002) 5
streethawk: a seduction (2001) 4

ya that's weird
(and I say that as a former This Night partisan who has now warmed to Streethawk)

i can get with these results although kaputt is anachronistic enough to seem a sort of different animal that everything else in the "oeuvre"

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 16 February 2012 01:15 (2 years ago) Permalink

:(

I have enduring respect and faith in the results of ILM polls, but no. No.

Fruitless and Pansy Free (Dr. Joseph A. Ofalt), Thursday, 16 February 2012 02:39 (2 years ago) Permalink

Thief getting no votes seems wrong

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:03 (2 years ago) Permalink

This poll is some newjack shit.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:20 (2 years ago) Permalink

i only know Kaputt and Destroyer's Rubies, so these results seem right to me. i really need to explore more music from this guy as i think he is pretty brilliant.

Bee OK, Thursday, 16 February 2012 03:25 (2 years ago) Permalink

kaputt was clearly the best album of 2011, a nose ahead of the three releases by the weeknd, but also probably better than anything released over the past several years (a nose ahead of, again, the three releases by the weeknd.)
