dont dont dont watch any more then - but at least that guy was totally voluntarily & sensibly out of it (see duct tape over ignition) & also voluntarily posted that to youtube specifically so we could laugh at it

deeznuts, Saturday, 21 June 2008 20:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Yes, the voluntary part of is kind of a double-edged sword for me - but you're right; it's his option, and that is better. I'm just staid and old and I don't get the appeal!

Sara R-C, Saturday, 21 June 2008 20:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Speaking of depressing, I suppose I should get on my treadmill. ;_; Wow I'd rather be napping.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 21 June 2008 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link

wow i just had about two hours of phone time discussing this job wherein my advisor essentially yelled at me for taking it and every other person i talked to told me i made the right decision. i think they win.

dell, Saturday, 21 June 2008 22:51 (fifteen years ago) link

thanks, dell <3 i'm sure she will be thrilled to hear that. i kind of want to tell her myself...

man, now i have a fucking headache.

tehresa, Saturday, 21 June 2008 23:12 (fifteen years ago) link

she is pissed because a) i got this without using her connections/network but rather my own networking/skillz and b) i called and told the guy i'd do it before i got to talk to her (because she is not in the office during the summer and had not yet responded to my messages/emails and i told him i'd get in touch by end of week and it was friday at 4:30 what am i supposed to do?). she would rather i become indigent while 'networking' and waiting for the 'perfect' job to roll along... right. sorry i don't have a husband and/or trust fund to rely on like the rest of my classmates, lady.

sorry bout yr team, dude :(

tehresa, Saturday, 21 June 2008 23:16 (fifteen years ago) link

hello, good morning, congratulations tehresa, commiserations dell.

estela, Saturday, 21 June 2008 23:37 (fifteen years ago) link

I basically have no patience for people with their ideals so far up their asses that they don't care what the actual effects on people's lives are. The job sounds fine, and in this economy, having one is a damned good start ffs. Especially if it is in the area you actually WANT to work in!

I mean, seriously, DUH.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 21 June 2008 23:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Anyway, hugs to dell, OF COURSE. (I do get into my own little rants; sorry)

i got presents! am at the shoe store for my last shift and there were fancy guylian chocolates, a pretty card with a really nice inscription and yellow roses. and i got a card last night from these three guys at the restaurant (one of whom is a priest who i actually made an off-colour joke to the first time he dined there, and then his friend told me he is a priest)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 03:06 (fifteen years ago) link

you are all awesome!!

also i just kicked my friend's ass at scrabble (irl scrabble, not internets) and am feeling really proud!

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 03:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Oooh, good work! I feel like my internets Scrabble is way better than irl Scrabble. I should play more offline.

First hour or so of The Shining is just as creepy as I remember, btw

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 05:05 (fifteen years ago) link

i like irl because no one can cheat! and it means you get to hang out with cool people.

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 05:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't get to play it often irl because it's easier to play one turn at a time whenever than it is to spend an hour or two actually playing. But at least the kids are old enough where they don't try to take the tiles anymore. (Not only aggravating, but also CHOKING HAZARDS OMG).

I think I spent a good deal of the 4th of July last summer getting my ass handed to me at irl Scrabble. That may be the last time I played that way!

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 05:15 (fifteen years ago) link

i like irl cause no one can cheat!

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 05:31 (fifteen years ago) link

It is true that that is a nice feature.

My online win/loss ratio probably doesn't prove that I don't cheat - merely suggests it. I have learned a LOT from playing a lot of online games, but somehow not enough to not consistently lose to better players (HI DERE and my friend 4ndr3w are way, way better than me).

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 05:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Basically if it is an online word game, I'm in, but I am not very good. ;_;

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 05:37 (fifteen years ago) link

i have found that i got a ton better at word twist from repetitive playing. i do not like pathwords, though.

i am watching bring it on now. man, i love this movie.

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 05:40 (fifteen years ago) link

I watched some of over the top this morning a+++++++++++++++++++

wilter, Sunday, 22 June 2008 06:27 (fifteen years ago) link

Y'know, after an hour and a half of walking around Chicago and watching drunk types pour out of the bars, I like to relax with a nice BEER IN THE SHOWER.

SRSLY GUYS.

(P.S. First beer of the night, so this is not a Drunk Post)

en i see kay, Sunday, 22 June 2008 08:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, I am sooooooo bad at Scrabble, it's really embarrassing. I mean, terrible. I don't think I've ever managed to play a word that was more than four letters in my entire Scrabble playing history.

en i see kay, Sunday, 22 June 2008 08:21 (fifteen years ago) link

OH HAI have been out of commission due to evilllll lunch on Wednesday. Who knew I could barf my way to a virtual hernia through the joy of dodgy Turkish food?

suzy, Sunday, 22 June 2008 11:40 (fifteen years ago) link

Ugh! I'm glad you're better suzy!

xp You would get better if you played all the time. It's true with Scrabble. I'm not totally convinced about Word Twist.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 16:22 (fifteen years ago) link

i am glad to see that i am not the only vocal proponent of the always awesome BOWER on this board.

BLACK BEYONCE, Sunday, 22 June 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

oh no suzy! that sounds horrible :( hope you are feeling better!

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

A bit. I didn't have to wait long at Emergency, there were no drunks in front of me. Had to give up a shift on farmer's market, an art opening and after-dinner of friend, and meeting of expat Dems with Howard Dean today, plus had wanted to go see ILX bnads play (though cheapo barbecue part of prix fixe, did not want after toxic food shock). Bollocks.

suzy, Sunday, 22 June 2008 17:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Being sick sucks, but it's the worst when you have to miss stuff you wanted to do. Recover quickly!

Okay, Beer In The Shower fans, I am confused. Doesn't warm/hot water get into your beer? Wouldn't Beer In The Bath be more relaxing?

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 17:44 (fifteen years ago) link

i don't really get it... i've never had the thought to try it, though. but yeah, i think bath would be a+++ but with a glass of wine.

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 17:47 (fifteen years ago) link

its awesome, you just need a tall shelf/ledge to put it on, also COLD beer HOT shower is key.

this hyar word twist game is much more up my alley than scramble.

BLACK BEYONCE, Sunday, 22 June 2008 17:59 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i am digging it way more than scramble, pathwords, and scrabulous.

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 18:04 (fifteen years ago) link

woah i just got 183 points in one round! good letters, that one!

tehresa, Sunday, 22 June 2008 18:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I have no tall shelf in either shower ;_; SO SAD NOW

All this being said, I think it is always important to take nearly scalding showers. Possibly this is because it makes my skin look so bright red and I like to freak A. out a bit.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 22 June 2008 18:47 (fifteen years ago) link
