ah shall probably not backtrack and find out. Life is too short for that although this does seem to be haymaking time for the mindless element of ILX.

Depeinding on who you're calling "mindless", you might want to get a headstart on back-pedaling.

Laurel, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Mainly Enrique and Dom P. who seem to be doing pointless revives of every luna started thread ever.

Ed, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:06 (sixteen years ago) link

i dunno if chaki went about this in a good way tho. esp. going onto this particular thread where luna was fairly regular poster and with everyone on here 'knowing' her a certain way (online persona) and liking her OF COURSE they're going to be defensive and critical of someone attacking her without giving any real immediate clues as to the story behind that (these all emerged pretty slowly - is a bit unfair to just say 'well you should've already known and you are dumb/naive for never considering it or giving benefit of doubt' if anyone did that) - it's the fear that you've been manipulated or made to look a fool just by having regular polite friendly conversations with someone who turned out to be phoney/actually manipulative IRL. so i don't blame people for having a go at chaki on that basis but this isn't an attack on chaki either just a 'could've gone about this with more sensitivity' thing not that i guess he gives a fuck about that (that would be the 'selfless' aspect of his 'broness') i guess.

blueski, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:06 (sixteen years ago) link

argh too much guessing

blueski, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Meanwhile one of the many intriguing subplots to this whole clusterfuck is that I have just become the first ILX mod to accidentally ban themselves from the board. I suck at internet.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:07 (sixteen years ago) link

you're not the first mod to accidentally ban yourself (unless you did it before)

She wasn't that regular a poster on here. I'm not quite sure why this thread was used for the 'I Am Off The Internet Because Of You' announcement considering all that I saw before that was on Excelsior (lol I know).

Lots of xposts to blueski

onimo, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

because this was a thread she was active on at the time no?

blueski, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:11 (sixteen years ago) link

at some point throughout the whole bunglefuck, it was insinuated that (a) chaki and i were the same person (b) luna and i were the same person (c) luna and chaki were the same person

remy bean, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

I think chaki was hoping more people would come out and admit that they, too, had been affected by Luna BS. Because he's taking heat for everyone who left ILX already or who doesn't want to be publicly IDed over this crap, I can understand it would be cool if other people who were affected or just plain had suspicions would speak up. Those people obv didn't want to, for their various reasons, so fine. But that was prob why he started with small comments instead of, say, starting a thread about it on main page. I don't blame him, I don't know what I'd have done either.

Laurel, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I would like to know who are the 53 people that left ILX because of the noize board.

I wonder where the fake luna(s) is/are right now

RJG, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:15 (sixteen years ago) link

or real luna(s)?

RJG, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think it's much/ANYTHING to think people should be truthful on the internet. Why misrepresent yrself? You want to be someone else, either grow up or do it.

President Evil, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

can you rephrase that in a modern language?

i'm sorry we're not up to the high intellectual standards of the watercooler.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't exactly know what anybody expects would have been the 'right' way to go about this. i really don't think chak went about, like, maliciously trying to prove this whole fakeness at all. it was just a couple of spurious comments that got drawn out, and in the course of defending himself and proving his point, he began to illuminate something that a lot of us had been trying to leave alone for a while. things got heated, of course ...

hopefully sam will come back; she's a nice and very decent person who takes things pretty personally. she's left before ...

remy bean, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:20 (sixteen years ago) link

A similar thing happened to me once (years ago). Months of online chats with some girl, all seems genuine, finally arrange to meet but then a day beforehand she drops all contact. The only real mindfuck is how they keep it going for SO long.

Given all of what you're saying, did these people want chaki and others speaking for them and pasting their sides of the story, etc? I really, really do not want to get involved with this and this is all I am going to say on the subject, but it is the one question I have about everything.

jessie monster, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:23 (sixteen years ago) link

in all honesty, i hope whoever luna really is, is okay -- i don't wish her any personal harm. i'm hardly the person to do it, but it wouldn't be a bad idea of somebody to send her an email to check in.

jessie: this was not a coordinated, planned, assault, it was just a kind of unearthing of stuff. chaki was trying to say 'trust me, there's some real meat to this -- i've heard about it in person' without giving away the names of the people involved.

remy bean, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought of emailing Luna, but if she really is a compulsory liar like this thread would suggest, I'm not sure what sort of answer I'd get (if any), and I don't want to delve too deep into this shit. I do hope she's okay too, and that maybe she can in the future learn to live without such lies.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:29 (sixteen years ago) link

wtf "the right crowd"?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:30 (sixteen years ago) link

blueski, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:31 (sixteen years ago) link

most of the people involved were in chat that night

She's really, really hurt.

Michael White, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I agree that all these thread revivals to look for "clues" is a pretty lame attempt for humour in a situation that isn't really funny in the first place.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:32 (sixteen years ago) link

SERIOUS POSTER IS SERIOUS

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Did you mail to her, Michael? What did she say?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

thanks, remy, for the response. I didn't mean to be accusing people of planning an "assault" or anything, I was just voicing my concern for the people who were hurt in the situation(s) off-board as someone who can get pretty up-in-arms about privacy. you and chaki obviously know them far better than I do, and I didn't mean to sound really critical of the decisions you guys, and anyone else involved, made. the last thing I want to do is pick sides in this, because I don't think I have any right to be involved.

jessie monster, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 16:34 (sixteen years ago) link

This is kind of an odd moral point: if you're attached to a person that doesn't exist (or who exists in significantly different terms than the ones with which you had been presented) is it fair or is it self-deluding to extend to the real person same charity and kindness you would extend to the less honest front to which you were attached?

I can't imagine the affection you all felt for Luna is totally diminished, just confused and kind of misplaced. There's still gotta be some human attachment, right?

I wasn't especially friendly with her, and this really doesn't change my opinion at all. If I were close, I'd probably email her with something non-accusatory, but I also expect I'm gonna be the kind of prick that lets my wife cheat on me a lot.
