I just got an email from a cheesy venue advertising a show by some band called The Lumineers.
Um, GROSS

For a second I thought "Um, GROSS" was referring to horrible teeth in a band photo.

No way, it's like having a band called Cheek Implants.

Perfect example of a face that I couldn't truly comprehend until I saw it smiling with teeth:

One of my students had a bit of a tooth discoloration issue, and she came to class the other day and it was gone. I was going to tell her that her teeth looked good but it would have been embarrassing, so I just told her it was nice to see her smile.

how does this fit in with your aversion to stories of dentistry?

Well, I was happy for her because she looked great, but didn't want to hear details. I can't really go into detail (here) about why I am terrified of dentists or have dental work phobia, but the teeth identifying/noticing thing is way older than that.

I don't remember where I mentioned this before, but I used to call Jimmy Carter "Teeth" because when I looked at him that was all I saw (as a wee child, I mean).

there was a whole thing on 60 min last night about ppl with face blindness, but none of them had super teeth vision.

This weekend ilx user Trip Maker and I were going to be at the same show, but I wasn't 100% sure what he looked like. I was pretty sure that I remembered his teeth from this thread. I figured if I saw him and recognized him, I would say hi. Of course I would!

So I was sitting on the steps, in the way, and someone sat down next to me and smiled. Within 0.05 seconds I knew who it was, and I have never met this person before in my life.

The guy ive been seeing recently has interestingly crooked teeth and tbh I love 'em, like I do the housemates. I mean there's a point where one'd draw the line - rotten Shame McGowan style teeth come to mind - but horesey or crooked teeth give one some intrigue and interest I think.

Oh, indeed! Health is an essential component of teeth. I'm mostly interested in their shape, arrangement in the mouth, and proportion to lip/gum.

mine are a little drifty, but not too noticeably -- what is the opinion of slight space between top front teeth?

Depends on the teeth but usually I prize distinctiveness over perfection.

"perfection" = uniformity in shape and size (which i don't believe is perfection but i forgot the scare quotes)

Gosh, sorry - just read OP! If it's any consolation, my wisdom teeth extraction wasn't a horror story: it's literally the only dental work I've ever had done, and it went swimmingly. Hurt like hell, of course, but the drugs and ice cream were great.

I must guiltily admit that made me search for a picture of her with vampire teeth from her appearance in the Blade franchise

they're very square and neatly aligned
i'd guess she had braces

Found nine of my permanent teeth in a shot glass when going through boxes in my closet this past week. I've had ten removed, but one wisdom tooth is missing, I think it got pulverized during the removal process. I could take pictures. Shot glass is from the Johnson Space Center!
