Really wish that "Freeze your face" version with the 50 songs would've came out.

my parents were a little older when they had me, and they were both younger kids in their families. it always kinda weirded me out when other kids would talk about going to see their great-grandparents. like i didn't think that should be possible.

apparently the internet has no DDM tshirts to offer me, this is nuts.

however searching amazon > apparel for "diddy" does return this:

i was thinking of doing a 'best guest appearance on LTTP' poll but not sure if i want to rush into that level of overkill

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

there are surprisingly few standouts to choose from!

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 18:53 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that was why i thought it'd be interesting

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 18:54 (eleven years ago) link

lord, it'd actually be timberlake or grey for me (tip in third place)

everyone else is either barely noticeable (grace jones, bilal/fauntleroy backing vox) or crucial-but-not-notable (swizz beatz) or the worst thing about the song (drake, breezy, rawse) or dead (biggie)

usher and wayne acquit themselves well but i don't feel they bring the EXACT singular vibe that's perfect for both the song and the context within the album that timberlake and grey too.

if there was somehow a version of "hello good morning" with both tip and nicki minaj on it, and it was on the album, nicki would walk it. YOUNG MONEY I DO IT FOR THE YOUT DEM

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:03 (eleven years ago) link

"Your Love" is one of the best things Trey Songz has ever done, he probably would get my vote

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:04 (eleven years ago) link

^some dude otm

johnny crunch, Monday, 23 April 2012 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

oh actually yeah i agree! i forgot because i was looking at the choices in this poll and poor trey's credit got missed off

(but i think i'd still choose timberlake or grey)

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:11 (eleven years ago) link

trey may well have the best individual performance but i think looking at it in terms of whose absence from the album would be most felt it's weezy imo

r|t|c, Monday, 23 April 2012 19:19 (eleven years ago) link

oh i'd love weezyless edits of both his songs

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:20 (eleven years ago) link

can we do a kickstarter to buy goole that costume and then require him to wear it once a week

r|t|c, Monday, 23 April 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

haha

i mean i totally subscribe to the theory that every element of the album contributes to the whole and wouldn't want to change a thing -- BUT if i was going to delete anyone from the record it'd totally be Wayne

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

^^

i'd totally vote chris brown tbh - i've loved plenty of his songs before and after LTTP but i think his performers here are among the very few that hint at any actual humanity

dharunravir (k3vin k.), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:46 (eleven years ago) link

well at least the better of the two CB songs appears without him (and perhaps more crucially, without Wiz Khalifa) on the Dawn mixtape

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:47 (eleven years ago) link

i might feel compelled to vote for CB in this hypothetical poll so please don't

goole, Monday, 23 April 2012 20:00 (eleven years ago) link

also my hourly rate for humiliation is pretty high but i'm not saying no at this point in time

goole, Monday, 23 April 2012 20:02 (eleven years ago) link

gotcher back, dude brought it on this album imo. i know tim agrees too

dharunravir (k3vin k.), Monday, 23 April 2012 20:38 (eleven years ago) link

pretty happy that I had cause to order stuff from amazon and got a $3 physical versh

dayo, Monday, 23 April 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

y'all are underrating weezy on "strobe lights", that might get my vote

yeah no i do think we're p much on the same page here generally but just for me weezy's presence on the album was vital in kinda idk, emulsifying the cocky/dreamy "hate you but i love you but i hate you" motherfuckers that's stoned patient aspect that i think would otherwise have got a little lost just with diddy carrying it. obviously subsequent releases in the ddm canon have further gone some ways towards internalizing the whole aesthetic so that perhaps now weezy doesnt quite seem as necessary, but at the time (and still in terms of lltp as a standalone piece) he was pertinent

also i say weezy's 'presence' rather than contribution specifically - i would suggest it's important to note all guests on the album have their characters sublimated into the lttp vibe, almost like they're mutliplicites of a single conflicted self rather than discrete entities cosigning the main body. like i might have first said ross was eminently the least essential person on this but even he works as a sort of texture of in-the-here-and-now brash celebrity unaware of the diddy/biggie melancholies to come

r|t|c, Monday, 23 April 2012 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

i told her i would love her

these are not the lines i would choose to type out to sell wayne on "strobe lights" to sceptics (though i do like his turn on it)

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 21:53 (eleven years ago) link

lil wayne's attitude on 'strobe lights' is like someone pulling the wings off of a fly

dayo, Monday, 23 April 2012 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

forever's just a word
i put words together

pretty devastating imo

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 23 April 2012 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

really fits into the dark, doubtful middle third of the album

dayo, Monday, 23 April 2012 21:55 (eleven years ago) link

love hypothetical polls btw, dudes should fail to realise them more often

r|t|c, Monday, 23 April 2012 21:56 (eleven years ago) link

i would suggest it's important to note all guests on the album have their characters sublimated into the lttp vibe, almost like they're mutliplicites of a single conflicted self rather than discrete entities cosigning the main body

this is so crucial yeah! but the best ones are also entirely recognisable as themselves, or at least they're basically still doing what they normally do, so it's not just straightforward self-anonymising in service of diddy, it's kind of...almost like the other way round, an extension of the sade love (and how diddy quotes those songs diddy on "coming home"). it's him identifying with what wayne, justin etc do and using them as mouthpieces.
