I don't think you should suggest anyone to be banned if you can't even point out a single post of them that'd justify the ban.

It wasn't just trying to be charitable, I thought it was an applicable example. If a new poster shows up and seems fine in most threads, but is being really questionable in another, we can point to the problem so its not just like a "we don't like this new guy" thing.

I didn't Sb Whiney this time, so it came as a surprise to me that he got 51ed because I hadn't seen anything uncool written by him.

I'm not a moderator, but I could see where it would be confusing.

I'm still ready to hear what the new policies are. Do you have to have the same post KerPowed 51 times? 51 posts once each? Is 51 even a number anymore? Are the 30 day temp bans still the same?

Serious question: Does Flag Posts have anything to do with why bookmarking is muffed up for me now? Now when I click "Bookmark" on a post, I am redirected to uppermost post displayed. This was not the case about 30 minutes ago.

tbh I unfairly didn't give the mods any real warning abt this change after it was discussed on sandbox, so don't have any real policy changes yet. That said, I feel that 51 individual users saying "take action about this user" is still a strong signal, and is about the right level for action to be taken.

We can potentially focus thinking more on posts now than before -- "51 users objected to these specific posts by this user" -- and I'm thinking about tools that would help with that. We can certainly start weeding out any spurious or baffling flagged posts.

This would lead to maybe taking different actions, like (off the top of my head) if all the posts are on one specific board, why not just ban the user from that board as a first step?

If a user does get a site ban after a load of users flag their posts, I think that should still stay at a month off for the first offence, getting progressively steeper until potentially permaban. But again, need to discuss this a bit.

tldr: if 51 users have flagged your posts in the past six months, and they strike us as reasonable complaints, I'd expect a ban of some kind.

Je55e: yeah, this is another change -- thinking is that it takes you right back to the list of bookmarks so you can choose another one to read.

This the way Suggest Ban should've worked in the first place (as me and many others tried to say back then)

No and no. As before, if a poster, not a post, gets flagged 50 times within 6 months, the rule of thumb has been to give them a one month ban on the 51st.

Have changed some of the mod tools, but yea, this is semantic -- but in ways that I'm much happier about and I think are important. I'd prefer people to be going "look at this post" than "look at this poster".

(Which is really how I've thought of it for a long time, but the wording didn't reflect that.)

All the former SBs have been being recorded against actual posts for some time. Might be we need to scan over them, but haven't wiped them out wholesale. xxp

The name change is enough imo, there's no longer a negative vibe hanging off every single post.
