last time I saw Yeh, he played solo in the Berkeley Art Museum, which is this concrete multi-level structure that sucks acoustically for a lot of music, but he sounded amazing.

This Uk fest in Nottingham looks awesome, I can't make it 'cause we're doing an indiepop night in Brighton that weekend :/

was it menche who did that noise record that dealwithit.gif was trying to identify on the sandbox?

also, unrelated question: is Blue Sabbath Black Cheer still around? #noderail

On BxC: recommendations above are great ones, but also check for the collabos with hototogisu, some of last decade's finest growly seance noise drone, just the thing for cruising Baltimore streets late at night

Raymond Cummings, Friday, 3 February 2012 05:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

my cousin's husband once made me a Halloween themed comp that was mostly death metal but had a 10 min untitled Hototogisu song in the middle that fucking ruled my world!

Ha! Yeah, they're great. Haven't done anything lately for some reason.

This Pop. 1280 record on Sacred Bones is really good, can see fans of Pissed Jeans and early Liars really enjoying this.

Finland's Tommi Keränen about the connection between Moomins, drones and LSD

YES!

also any obsessive readers of the Circle thread may like to know that Umpio is a dude who used to be in Deep Turtle and now runs a label which I have been totes slack and not bought anything from

(also also after 2 Finnish noiserock dudes I totally thought that the Sissy Spacek listed would be the SY-esque Finnish band of that name and not the act who are, you know, actually still releasing things and internationally known)

the Sissy Spacek gig I saw in December was probably one of the best shows I saw all of last year. They've released a bunch of stuff recently.

sarahell, Monday, 6 February 2012 20:35 (1 year ago) Permalink

I just picked up that Pop. 1280 LP. Sacred Bones still have some of the flashy deluxe LP versions...

"Limited edition version includes translucent green vinyl, hand-silk-screened wrap-around sleeve and wax seal. Hand numbered in an edition of 125."

any tips on the Decimus albums? dude's already up to vol 9 or summat.

I'd love to know about that too.

Ha, my Pop. 1280 vinyl is translucent green, but I don't remember any of that other stuff. Tbh, my turntable is still in storage so I only opened it long enough to get the download code out though. Sigh. I really miss my turntable.

no surprises here since I love just about everything this guy does but the 2 3cdr sets (!) kevin drumm is selling via his blogspot (I have a computer / blast of silence) are both totally great. particularly love the blast of silence discs. slow, gradually modulating sine wave tones that will just take over a room at appropriate volumes. kind of puts me in the same headspace as eliane radigue!

Full line-up for the Broken Flag fest:

RAMLEH (power-electronics set)
SKULLFLOWER
CON-DOM
LE SYNDICAT
SEWER ELECTION / TRERIKSRÖSET

Saturday - Doors 4.30pm:-

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
ESPLENDOR GEOMETRICO (first ever UK show!)
GRUNT
BLACK SUNROOF!
JFK
M.T.T.
LETTERA 22
KLEISTWAHR

Sunday - Doors 4.30pm:-

THE NEW BLOCKADERS
RAMLEH (rock set)
CLUB MORAL
GIANCARLO TONIUTTI
SIGILLUM S
PUTREFIER
VORTEX CAMPAIGN
TOMMI KERÄNEN

weighing up attending on Saturday/Sunday, as I'm intrigued by the Black Sunroof! performance, aka Cindy Talk + Voltigeurs. And Esplendor Geometrico live?!

Interesting also that Skullflower will be playing with Jaworzyn, or so I gather.

Not familiar with all of the lesser bands though. How much many power electronic style acts should I expect? Or at least what won't be entirely harsh. My stamina and interest for such things isn't quite what is once was, but then there's artists like Giancarlo Toniutti, from whom I only know to do spacious industrial room-tone kinda sounds.

bulge renaissance (+ +), Friday, 4 May 2012 13:40 (1 year ago) Permalink

the stark initialed/european/militaristic sounding names certainly suggest black-jacketed misanthropes wielding pedals
