I never had sleeping around days, I guess. Never figured out *how* to do it. I dunno. It's not like I'm opposed to the concept - hell, I'm allowed to - but the entire concept of picking up guys remains totally daunting and confusing to me. I feel like I stumbled into a pretty decent relationship through dumb luck.

Same here, minus the stumbling into a relationship part.

I do, I must say, sorta savor being able to tell stories from my *CRAZY PAST* or w/e. I was talking abt sex stuff to my friend at work the other day and I was all "Did I ever tell you abt the time I fucked a rabbi?" and she nearly shit herself.

judith, Monday, 30 January 2012 00:18 (twelve years ago) link

also, hey jed. <3 <3

judith, Monday, 30 January 2012 00:19 (twelve years ago) link

A Rabbi?

Like... reform? Or modern orthodox? You get more points/respect from me the further up the theological chain you go.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 30 January 2012 01:36 (twelve years ago) link

i am doing a half decent job at slimming down, and growing out my stubble. then i am getting a tan and showing off my new haircut.

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 02:41 (twelve years ago) link

(xp speaking of getting laid)

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 02:42 (twelve years ago) link

I've gained about 10 lbs since this summer. I'm okay with that.

tanuki, Monday, 30 January 2012 02:47 (twelve years ago) link

but the entire concept of picking up guys remains totally daunting and confusing to me.

Me too until I have way too many drinks in me and I turn a corner and I'm suddenly starting conversations all over the place and evidently being good at breaking the ice in a way I normally am not.

Last night I went to the somewhat seedy Lucky H0r5h0e and talked to a bunch of Mexican and Guatemalan guys celebrating two birthdays. One of them - short and cute - asked to friend me on FB but I'm not sure he succeeded. I was like just take my phone number, but being a modern man, he doesn't like using the phone.

Je55e, Monday, 30 January 2012 02:54 (twelve years ago) link

It's also far easier for me to start a conversation w/ a stranger in Spanish. Or when in a strange city. Maybe I feel more open when I'm out of my usual element or something.

Je55e, Monday, 30 January 2012 02:55 (twelve years ago) link

picking up guys is somewhere between hello and a miracle, it's a fine line

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 03:32 (twelve years ago) link

My worst moment of which I a proudest is when I went up to the stranger in the bar and said, "Take me home with you," and he did. I reserve the right to brag about that, though I don't even consider it bragging since it was the booze talking, not me.

Je55e, Monday, 30 January 2012 03:53 (twelve years ago) link

me and my straight best friend have ended up having really frank discussions about sexuality the past two nights

lag∞n affiliated (The Reverend), Monday, 30 January 2012 08:19 (twelve years ago) link

what constitutes "really frank"?

[also, i enjoy v. much the construction of the phrase 'my straight best friend' insofar as it inverts all of the weird tokenism of the far too often heard phrase 'my gay best friend']

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

yea the 1-2 punch pickup can work real wonders jess

takes one to know one in those kinds of situations

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

Ha – I always had a frank sex/"relationship" chat with two of my best straight bros last night: prostates and such.

whoops: omit "always"

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:38 (twelve years ago) link

Chicken wings and beers helped with the sextalk.

As for my sex life, I've been dry for weeks, since before Xmas; thank god for my dromedary instincts.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:40 (twelve years ago) link

you store it in a hump?

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:41 (twelve years ago) link

I store my humps more like

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:46 (twelve years ago) link

I just jerked around all weekend, not nec in a metaphorical way

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:52 (twelve years ago) link

jerked into a literal facepalm

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 January 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link

i went to the salon and talked to the ladies, scrubbed my shower and my sink, re-organized the linen closet and got the new Vogue

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 16:02 (twelve years ago) link

I need to clean my bathroom tonight or tomorrow.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 January 2012 16:02 (twelve years ago) link

"clean"? is that a verb?

The sum of my linens are always either on the bed or in the laundry.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Monday, 30 January 2012 16:03 (twelve years ago) link

btw the new Givenchy boy models look pretty dope imho

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 16:06 (twelve years ago) link

i went to brooklyn with my boyfriend and stayed in a hotel. the elevator in the hotel was lit with violet LEDs and had shitty dance music piped in. rave elevator, not so great. the rest of the trip was pretty awesome. fluffy king-sized bed, why can't you be mine??

i think this is serious (elmo argonaut), Monday, 30 January 2012 17:35 (twelve years ago) link

i also brunched a lot and saw the HIDE/SEEK queer portraiture exhibit at the brooklyn museum (highly recommended btw)

wish I had my trip money to DC from last January in my pocket, in other words

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Monday, 30 January 2012 17:51 (twelve years ago) link

i hate mattresses for being so expensive and ridiculous but when i go somewhere the bed is like one of the best things, even if it's a motel 6 or whatever. xp

i'm real bummed i didn't get to see that hide/seek show when i was in nyc last

i plan on being back in april tho btw

donna rouge, Monday, 30 January 2012 17:53 (twelve years ago) link

perchance around Apr 21?

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Monday, 30 January 2012 17:55 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks before that :/

donna rouge, Monday, 30 January 2012 17:58 (twelve years ago) link

i have a pretty nice queen mattress at home but it is SUPER FIRM, just firm as anything, the firmest bed ever. mostly because my boyfriend can't deal with soft, squishy mattresses because they aggravate his back & joint issues, so when i get to sleep in a poofy plush mattress it is always a treat.

i think this is serious (elmo argonaut), Monday, 30 January 2012 18:05 (twelve years ago) link

also donna the exhibit is only there until 2/12 ;_;

We saw this when we were in Brooklyn! And also brunched a little bit.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 30 January 2012 18:37 (twelve years ago) link

It was really quite excellent.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 30 January 2012 18:37 (twelve years ago) link

i've never really gotten into queer books, or queer art in general i guess

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 19:39 (twelve years ago) link

altho a good friend of mine curates a queer art performance festival so in terms of dance and live performance i'm there

surm, Monday, 30 January 2012 19:47 (twelve years ago) link

best queer art i've seen recently was the adventures of tintin
