love "you mean so much to me" from Touched. "pleasure" is the favourite from the new stuff i've heard.

when's the album out?

misty sensorium (Plasmon), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 05:03 (1 year ago) Permalink

feb 7th. the wine/water 12" is amazing. i was a huge fan of the ep on merock but i kinda slept on the stuff on rvng so ive only picked it up recently but 'wine' is just a jammmm

# (Lamp), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 05:06 (1 year ago) Permalink

i think the best blondes track is still 'you mean so much to me' tho

saw them saturday night @ the MOMA. sound system could have been a little better but it pretty mesmerizing hearing them loud anyway.

the panning. THE PANNING!!!

Hmm, wondering now if i should take a train ride to London to see them next month.

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Thursday, 26 January 2012 13:21 (1 year ago) Permalink

Just noticed this after posted the Wine clip to hipster house thread, but was unsure if it belonged there. I like the new single and the Bicep remix, the FACT mix is pretty great in terms of mapping out their sound and some influences.

There's a chance to see them in a couple of weeks here, I'm going to try and check them out. I suspect they might make quite a bit of sense live.

MikoMcha, Thursday, 26 January 2012 14:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

so its just a rerelease of all the rvng singles?

flopson, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 00:36 (1 year ago) Permalink

the remixes seem pretty intriguing actually

haha i posted about this on another thread but its really really good!

these guys were awesome last night but was the standard shacklewell arms snoozy indie crowd. Determined to get them to a proper party

straightola, Friday, 17 February 2012 16:34 (1 year ago) Permalink

Why did they leave the Robert Miles mix off the CD?? It's the best remix!

mmmm, Friday, 17 February 2012 17:03 (1 year ago) Permalink

MikoMcha, Sunday, 19 February 2012 10:51 (1 year ago) Permalink

This album is fabulous. Some of the percussion lines are just classic.

Tim F, Sunday, 19 February 2012 13:28 (1 year ago) Permalink

Yeah, it's great. Been jamming to this all day. Some of the track I hadn't heard before. Love the fireworks crackling explosions on Amber.

Haven't made it to the remix disk yet, other than the Robert Miles track above, which I honestly had much higher hopes for.

MikoMcha, Sunday, 19 February 2012 14:16 (1 year ago) Permalink

The Business/Pleasure pairing is absolutely perfect, and the rest is really solid too. Haven't got round to all the remix disc but I'm totally feeling the Bicep remix.

boxedjoy, Sunday, 19 February 2012 19:52 (1 year ago) Permalink

This is officially the least stealable band name ever. They couldn't have made it any harder to find if they'd called themselves Paris Hilton Sex Tape.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Sunday, 19 February 2012 20:19 (1 year ago) Permalink

This albums! So sweeping, so brooding! It strikes me as an odd coincidence that this and the Talabot album have come out at the same time because they both are like extended paeans to the build.

I think it's on "Pleasure" (though I may be wrong) where about halfway through this gorgeous piano riffing section emerges... while we're not in Marshall Jefferson territory by any stretch it still feels like this massive moment of rightness, like the entire universe has deemed this moment mandatory.

Tim F, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:07 (1 year ago) Permalink

This albums!

Tim F, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:08 (1 year ago) Permalink

Lover is a great song, but Pleasure is where it really starts kicking off.

Do agree with this from the first post though:

But their best work is still "Moondance" from 2010

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:28 (1 year ago) Permalink

I think the Blondes-Talabot link is so clear, they're very similar albums texturally as well as structurally.

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 23:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

ha, yea i was surprised at how well that robert miles remix turned out but i def wouldn't say it's my favorite of the bunch. the teengirl fantasy mix is p striking, and i'm also really feeling stirmonster's remix of "lover" that plays the melody from don cherry's "brown rice" against the original song's meredith monk sample.

this is definitely one of my favorite releases of the year so far, along with the talabot disc. i don't remember "pleasure" for the piano lines per se but more because of the somewhat unexpected lissvik-style balearic synth-guitar flourishes that pop up and make me sad that this is probably the closest we will ever come to another "life's a beach". tho that sadness quickly dissipates because it's an incredible track in it's own right

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 23:26 (1 year ago) Permalink

this album is LOVELY.

i have no idea how i hadn't even heard of them until yesterday when a friend recommended them in response to a "where is all the decent music this year" whinge - though a search did reveal that i'd just ignored the press email and d/l links a few months ago, presumably due to the boring name or maybe the douchey press release. this is so much more anonymous than i'd have thought and all the better for it

lex pretend, Thursday, 23 February 2012 09:07 (1 year ago) Permalink

finally listened to this all the way through (via trans-pacific flight). It's really really nice, but I kind of wish it was a little more of a continuos, monolithic thing (instead of 8 separate tracks) it's like, so close. def one of the best things I've heard all year though.

gotta dip in to the remixes next.

⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 23 February 2012 09:22 (1 year ago) Permalink

still need to hear the album in full. will rectify this today.

I think "Gold" is my favourite track at the moment but they are all so so so good. Just marvelous.

they all sound pretty much the same so you probably mean both

lex pretend, Thursday, 23 February 2012 12:16 (1 year ago) Permalink

Tim F, Thursday, 23 February 2012 12:22 (1 year ago) Permalink

Absolute top tier: "Business", "Pleasure", "Wine", "Gold".

So close as to barely matter: everything else.

Tim F, Thursday, 23 February 2012 12:25 (1 year ago) Permalink

Yeah, Wine is my fave.

MikoMcha, Thursday, 23 February 2012 12:25 (1 year ago) Permalink

Absolute top tier: "Business", "Pleasure", "Wine", "Gold"

Do they have other tunes called 'Yachts', 'Cocaine' and 'Secretaries'?

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Thursday, 23 February 2012 13:16 (1 year ago) Permalink

Actually, each of the original 12" gathered together in the album was arranged by a ying/yang theme: lover/hater, business/pleasure, water/wine, gold/amber.

Now I'm loving this. Between this, Todd Terje and the new John Talabot, the house scene is really spoiling us.

Alexandre Dumbass (dog latin), Thursday, 23 February 2012 23:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

So far it's the opener, lover, that hits me most - that gapped chanting with all the reverb on it - inspired programming!

Alexandre Dumbass (dog latin), Thursday, 23 February 2012 23:04 (1 year ago) Permalink

That's a sample from a Meredith Monk piece btw.

im into this also, for the record

johnny crunch, Friday, 24 February 2012 17:24 (1 year ago) Permalink

The Wine-Water pairing is definitely my favourite. Wine sounds like Layo & Bushwacka's Love Story refracted again and again and again, it's such a corny everyone-hug-each-other dancefloor moment but it completely works.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Friday, 24 February 2012 21:28 (1 year ago) Permalink

solid album
if you press play, no return allowed

There's something about these guys that reminds me of one of Lex's posts from last year where he was wishing for a dancier version of Emeralds. They don't quite have that depth or complexity to their sound (and heck, no Mark McGuire in the band either), but maybe this is a manifestation of that sort of way of thinking?

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 2 March 2012 11:56 (1 year ago) Permalink

Picked this up last night.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 2 March 2012 12:04 (1 year ago) Permalink

it took me a while to work out why this album massively impressed, but seemed like a bit of a drag.. it's because the second half is so much better than the first, so takes a while to get going. I only really listen from Wine onwards n/days

merked, Friday, 2 March 2012 13:10 (1 year ago) Permalink

it's because the second half is so much better than the first, so takes a while to get going

^ this is definitely true - think the record is possibly arranged in chronological order???

Feebs K-Tel (NickB), Friday, 2 March 2012 13:14 (1 year ago) Permalink

y'all don't like "lover"?

psychgawsple, Friday, 2 March 2012 17:45 (1 year ago) Permalink

and starting the record after "pleasure"... hrm. you guys must get something completely different out of this than i do, that is far and away my favorite track

psychgawsple, Friday, 2 March 2012 17:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

2 weeks pass...

the sounds on this album are just dazzling...like that moment when you're momentarily blinded by the sun shining off water or glass

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 March 2012 13:34 (1 year ago) Permalink

4 months pass...

I keep revisiting this album, or at least have been in a constant visit since seeing them live back in June. It translated well to a live act.
