it's from the 80's, but I always thought that You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd by the Wolf-less edition of The J. Geils Band was a dumb title.

Many years ago somebody was trying to think of what artist had made that record and asked me but I didn't know. His attitude was that he had stumped me but my attitude was "why should I know who recorded an album with a stupid title like that?" So thanking you for clearing that up, Elvis T.

Pretty sure these are where Blink 182 got the inspiration for a couple of their album names because they fit right in.

The Animals- Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted
In a similar vein of album titles that trot out a familiar (hackneyed) phrase, try
Bloody Tourists - 10cc Individually and Collectively - Steeleye SpanIndelibly Stamped - Supertramp
and so on...
Like Tom above I love puns MORE than the next man but... my all-time lame-pun album title (admittedly 80s) has to be Bankstatement by Tony Banks.

... what did these bands think they were achieving with these titles?

"If You Can't Stand This Heat" try Throbbing Gristle instead

― Tuomas, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 12:27 (1 year ago) Permalink
Status Quo: it's the lame visual gag and of course the other half of the title phrase would be ...Get Out Of The Kitchen, so it's a picture of a stove. Which is really crap and humdrum and not very dangerous at all, which pretty much sums up Status Quo imo.
― Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 12:28 (1 year ago) Permalink
Ah, okay, I didn't pay attention to the image, I though the pun was in the title.

The design meeting for that Small Faces cover must have been something:
Designer 1: "So the cover's gonna be a record on a turntable, but the pickup's an engine."Designer 2: "Eh, it's missing something."Designer 3: "What if the needle was gouging a tear in the record?"Designer 2: "Hmm... Good, but it needs to be edgier."Designer 1: "How about this, there's blood coming out of the tear!"Designer 2: "Excellent! Now let's go and do some more cocaine!"
