i love the song and video! reminds me of gabber techno!
― dave cool, Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:27 (1 year ago) Permalink
was sorta lukewarm on the song but the video kinda really sold me, even tho some of it is a rip of of "countdown"
but yeah this song is kinda the shit
― tyga mother (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:33 (1 year ago) Permalink
well every other song on urban radio now has that stilted, stomping clap/snare rhythm
― @51TimesNo (some dude), Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:34 (1 year ago) Permalink
one of the songs to really predict that trend was soulja boy's "donk," which nicki used for one of her biggest early mixtape tracks, so it kinda makes sense that she sounds in her element doing stuff like this and "dance (a$$)" i guess.

I would love to see those two toddlers from Ellen doing this.

the thing i like about this is that the insults are kind of understatedly bizarre -- "you lookin like a lab rat", starting off the second verse by addressing the other person as if they're actually bubbles the monkey, "who's gassin this ho? BP?" -- idk it goes pretty hard, and isn't all grocery bag'd up like "did it on em"
― tyga mother (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:39 (1 year ago) Permalink
This is good. The bit in the video clip where her eyes are really massive is probably going to stalk my dreams though.
― Tim F, Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:43 (1 year ago) Permalink
aren't her eyes always that way?
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:45 (1 year ago) Permalink
video made me think of that classic j0rdan post comparing nicki's creepy voices to suddenly realizing you're watching some kind of surreal fetish porn

This is her first solo song that I like.
― billstevejim, Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:48 (1 year ago) Permalink
how much time does Nicki spend rapping using the voice kids use to say "vroom vroom" these days?
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 21 January 2012 20:49 (1 year ago) Permalink
This reminds me of TINAT-era Missy.

at this point the "me on my pedal bike" baby voice barely registers on her top 5 most boner-shrivelingly unsettling vocal tics

love this song so much, that video is a total mess tho

also this song gets much better if you imagine that she's dissing azealia banks

also this btw
xp hahahaha

WAU at that juke rewurq.
― Tim F, Saturday, 21 January 2012 21:16 (1 year ago) Permalink
my favorite thing about it is how just when you keep expecting it to go on with those disjointed footwork beats for the duration, it hits with that big 4x4 drop and just explodes.
the funny thing was how quick on the draw that remix was. it popped up a day or two after the original.
― The Reverend, Saturday, 21 January 2012 21:21 (1 year ago) Permalink
Oh fuck this rewerq

hahah I was gonna post that 'donk' was the forerunner of this and a$$ but felt I would get gunned on by the goon crew

that's def a CGI leg she's holding in the first part of the video
this song is awesome, I've decided

First listen: this song is awesome, best thing she's put out in the last year. Nice to see some different voice-pastiches getting thrown into her Batman toolbelt here - particularly, I don't think I've heard the thing she does around 1:55 forward. It feels (to me) like she's verging into a wide set of real-life character impressions, like part of that could be Any Girl's Mom, and then the part that's Any Girl Practicing R&B Singing In Front Of The Mirror...I dunno. There's potential there.
I wish she would drop the candy-colored wig thing for just a little while - I love the look but I'm kind of into her dialing it down as this flattened-makeup, no-eyebrows thing she's doing in parts of this.

haha what an amazing video. i think i love this song now (liked it before but not like, raving about it - it's lots of fun but as a straight-up rap song i don't think it matches up to the early mixtape stuff that well). tim is right that the massive-eyed warped nicki face is the most unsettling bit.
idk whether shipz meant "boner-shrivelingly unsettling vocal tics" in a good way or not but it's certainly a positive imo
all of this does make me sad that "massive attack" will forever be the Lost Minaj Single, it's still ridiculously good and better than any single since apart from "super bass"

the song itself (ignoring the video) is kind of like an attempt to recreate "itty bitty piggy" but not actually as amazing - i approve of the general direction though

i think rhyming "Roman Zolanski" with "Roman Polanski" might be the one misstep. But she's so talented, she's allowed.

i think of a dated reference like i would a sample of a song i've forgotten. just because its not in the zeitgeist doesn;t mean its not dope to flip it. (cf, Biz Markie, "Reagan is the prez but i voted for Shirley Chisolm")
― dave cool, Sunday, 22 January 2012 17:03 (1 year ago) Permalink
idk, i feel like brad/angelina/jennifer refs have sort of transcended being just a pop cultural event w/ a time & place -- it's like referencing a fairy tale or something at this point
― tyga mother (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 22 January 2012 17:04 (1 year ago) Permalink
that might be the case if it wasn't for tabloids ceaselessly beating the dead horse over the years - i'm just tired of hearing all their names - like referencing britney/justin or something might have that effect, idk
