It's good to have Guido back.

http://www.factmag.com/2012/01/09/guido-launches-new-label-readies-live-show/

I still play Anidea pretty regular.

I've been sent some really lovely African deep house by a guy called DJ Tsoro. Can't find much on YouTube, but it's bloody lovely.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 11:44 (twelve years ago) link

New Guido sounds great. Intrigued by the live band angle

Can't stop playing You Make Me Feel by Terror Danjah & Meleka

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soB0Puv7gwg

He's got another track on the way with Ruby Lee Ryder on Butterz in the near future too, looking forward to hearing that.

you know, i don't know if i've ever seen a Mexicans With Guns mention on ilm, but Ceremony is super dope.

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 15:38 (twelve years ago) link

If you're into your lowkey beat tape stuff.

You mean witch house? Heh. Sounds great, I look forward to the release.

Kuedo's Sinking in the Datatank Mix

I expected this mix to be really rewarding to me but I'm just not feeling it. Track selection is fairly 'meh', aside from the obvious selections, and the mixing didn't really add anything.

The Palace tune(s?) upthread is outstanding though. I never really get out anymore, but at least I can imagine what it would sound like on a proper system.

viborg, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 16:59 (twelve years ago) link

That Kuedo mix is very mellow compared to some of his bits but then it is meant for a bookshop. His Fact mix from last year was maybe my favourite: http://www.factmag.com/2011/10/03/fact-mix-288-kuedo/

Photonz has another carnival sized rave banger on the way soon:

http://youtu.be/Dn6IjG1HT-k

Really into his 12" on Principle that already dropped this year.

jimitheexploder, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:43 (twelve years ago) link

You mean witch house

uh

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:46 (twelve years ago) link

lol don't worry I think it was a joke ;)

Glad people are feeling the Torus bits so far, we've had some good feedback so far. You can't beat some mellow beats once in a while.

jimitheexploder, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 19:49 (twelve years ago) link

mellow beats 4ever

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

NO JOKE, man. Witch house is nothing to laugh about.

viborg, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 21:02 (twelve years ago) link

But seriously, isn't Balam Acab/Clams Casino sometimes considered 'witch house'? The Torus doesn't sound that far off, and I mean that in a good way.

viborg, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 21:03 (twelve years ago) link

Balam Acab is too pretty to be witch house. Clams Casino is cloud rap without the rap.

Number None, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 21:09 (twelve years ago) link

Nah Balam Acab kinda got unearthed by witch house heads but I don't ever feel like he was witch house. He wasn't very gothic or dark he just shared a spaced out vibe and appeared at the same time. Clams Casino is just a hip-hop space cadet.

jimitheexploder, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 22:13 (twelve years ago) link

Oh yeah OP 'The Hope' by Scuba is on the way pretty soon it seems, since I just got the promo thru my inbox while typing the last message.

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 22:29 (twelve years ago) link

lol I think we got what you mean. She rapped on it. Do you reckon she'll do a mixtape before an album? Where we get to hear Lone and Machinedrum bringing the hype before her album is nowt but Diplo impressions... I'd kinda like that, I mean she'd at least get Lone & Machinedrum tracks out there to the odd geek who looks at the production notes who hasn't heard them before.

The 3 Gerry Read 12s on Fourth Wave have been really good. I think my fave one is "Untitled" from the first one. That and the Lorca remix I'm playing a lot. Lorca's Moments is just lovely anyway.

^^ true that. remarkable launch for Principe (portuguese for prince, fyi). the dj marfox 12" (eu sei quem sou) it's kuduro at its finest...

on a side note : you should really listen to sangue de cristo (photonz + tiago). a little more on the balearic side of things, but great notwithstanding.

rusty_allen, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 23:12 (twelve years ago) link

Nah Balam Acab kinda got unearthed by witch house heads but I don't ever feel like he was witch house. He wasn't very gothic or dark he just shared a spaced out vibe and appeared at the same time.

the only thing you can call him on are the super stock 808 drum sounds. but he's on some other shit with his vocal samples & structures, wander/wonder was really pretty and underrated.

i hear that torus stuff as being part of the shlohmo/lapalux/beat scene tip.

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 23:17 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah Torus to us at least is on that beat scene tip. SR have always been into that vibe.

I rally need to dig into Photonz and those guys more. the DJ Marfox 12" has hardly been off my turn table since I got it. Big up on the suggestions Rusty.

Any impressions on the new Preditah EP? I like some of the sounds so far, but it's a bit uneventful for me.

_Rudipherous_, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 16:52 (twelve years ago) link

who would want to apologize for making $$$$$ is what i want to know

i mean wanting to engage with u.s. rap artists rather than just making their own insular/instrumental version of it.

i was more talking about the "they're stealing our ideas" bit

yeah that's ridiculous. i don't doubt that lots of u.s. producers are aware of them, but clearly a ton of ideas have flowed the other way.

Having EDM artists colonize your scene has a way of making people a little musically conservative, even Ikonika is talking about listening to Legowelt. Kryptic Minds, Untold, lots of people.

The other options are what? White boy juke? Trap? Endless Burial ripoffs?

the late great, Saturday, 19 January 2013 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

When I started the first partisans thread I wanted it to be for everything, then a separate thread was requested. So its fine by me.

I'm fighting a perverse desire to start a rolling EDM thread.
