lol, you guys are the one acting like this is a return to form from 1977

bob loblaw people (dayo), Sunday, 8 January 2012 03:59 (1 year ago) Permalink

this isn't like, one of his best 20 songs or anything, but it's got a tune and the production is there, it's an encouraging sign given the majority of his solo shit over the past year and a good song in its own right

well so far you're refusing to acknowledge that either exists. go to bed, homes

rebecca blah (k3vin k.), Sunday, 8 January 2012 04:07 (1 year ago) Permalink

i don't even dislike this thing, nor am i off the teriuswagon, but it's not even as good as "body work" let alone "fuck my brains out"

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Sunday, 8 January 2012 04:11 (1 year ago) Permalink

smh

"body work" is the nadir of post-golden age thin, tuneless terius

rebecca blah (k3vin k.), Sunday, 8 January 2012 04:18 (1 year ago) Permalink

I just think this song is enough to imply that his new project is going to be in the same vein and maybe as good as Love King. This is good news for people that thought '77 was an OH NO DONT DO THAT moment. Its a bit of a relief, like ok he hasn't lost it... phew. Its a serviceable jam that may get a little more praise than it should due to the above reasons.

I love it too, still want this new one to better it though.

Youncle Buck (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 9 January 2012 06:23 (1 year ago) Permalink

Although my post didnt indicate that fact :/

Youncle Buck (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 9 January 2012 06:24 (1 year ago) Permalink

At this point we need some kind of convoluted venn diagram to cover all the various narc of sd positioning on the-dream's ouvre.

fuiut(hink) love king isn't his worst album

still waiting for finney and shipley to deliver their verdicts on this one

rebecca blah (k3vin k.), Monday, 9 January 2012 06:37 (1 year ago) Permalink

Still like it even though it is his worst one (besides that other one)

Youncle Buck (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 9 January 2012 06:40 (1 year ago) Permalink

saying its his 'worst album' (i assume you're excluding 1977 which is 10x worse) is arguable at best -- there's no universe in which it's a definitive loser in that race. imho.

somebody call the brinks truck (D-40), Monday, 9 January 2012 07:51 (1 year ago) Permalink

Yeah, I love all three, just like Lk a tiny bit less than the other 2 atm. I pretend 77 isnt there.

i do not really have the facts to back this but this song kinda blows imo. it's satisfying that it's occupying that kind of sonic zone he excels in, but i feel like the song isn't even there; he usually - on the dream records - has such distinctive phrasing, part of what makes so many of the insane metaphor couplets so memorable, & this just feels like autopilot. wasn't surm talking about the uselessness of 'roc'-centric jams, recently. also rooting for something because it ~might~ ~possibly~ ~portend~ a return to form just reminds me of being 16 and being really invested in when my favourite shitty band was gonna get good again. also it kinda reminds me of justin bieber, idk. i like the first minute of the weird squishy outro but the song is really lazy to me & the only satisfaction i can get out of it is that it is the-dream & i like the way those records feel.

I'm having a hard time with this one, sadly. It just sounds like a YouTube video that's constantly rebuffering.

now granted i would've spent the entire interview secretly gathering material for my 33 1/3 pitch on the-dream's entire 2009 output, but still
