"People are most excited to get through the barricades," said one TJ Maxx salesperson who was greeting shoppers with "I heart TJ" bags. "One woman ran in and exclaimed, 'I made it!'"

While the cops followed the marchers meandering around the loop, a suspension system was rigged and when the crowd came back they raised a big beautiful banner....

oh rad. was hoping it would become an at least minor Deal; it seemed to have potential.

A group of students launched into a rendition of The Star Spangled Banner, to the disgust of an older protester who shouted, “Those bombs bursting in midair created this beast. The Star Spangled Banner is not our song. We will create a new song, a new anthem.” As if to clinch the argument, he added, “Wall Street was built by the Dutch to keep the Native Americans out!” Here, microscopically, were the two sides of Occupy Wall Street: those who believed they were reclaiming an American value that had been lost, and those who believed that there was nothing to reclaim, that an acceptable history did not exist and would have to be created from scratch after a revolution.

old lady from code pink got into a long shouting match with our people when they put this up, saying "he would not want to be memorialized in that baby-killer uniform"

I think the uniform is the least of that image's problems.

xp just seemed like the combination of solemn subject people will get upset if you treat lightly + discrepancy in eye size would have been fodder for their mocker hordes but maybe this is a back-in-the-day thing. i guess they're all neuromancers now.

Yesterday during all the N17, Jim Wallis reached out to a non-trad audience by posting this thru Sojourners:

http://sojo.net/blogs/2011/11/17/church-sanctuary-occupy-movement

...
It’s also a way to connect the generations in the context of a community for people of all ages. Because all social movements inevitably generate tension and even outright conflict, they need safe space, places to rest and rejuvenate. They need sanctuary.

Offering that sanctuary to the Occupiers — at our tables, on our property, in our parish halls and church basements, and in our sanctuaries for the quiet prayer and reflection that every movement needs to sustain itself — could be the beginning of a powerful relationship between the faith community and the leaders of an emerging generation that is so clearly and passionately committed to creating a better world.

re: Occupy Oakland
Tim Simons, 28, an organizer with the group, said Occupy activists had picked the site because groups representing businesses in the area - including the Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Merritt-Uptown District Association - were "our enemies."

Simons said the chamber's motives were influenced by banks and large corporations, noting that board members are employed by Visa, Wells Fargo and AT&T.

The business groups pushed for Occupy to be evicted from its first camp at 14th Street and Broadway, Simons said. "They're out here trying to make a buck in this neighborhood through gentrification," he said. "They need to know we're here, too."

this is fucking stupid.
