Please use the second list of songs (complete with ZZ Top entry and minus erroneous Led Zep song) rather than the first.

Hmmm...do we need a new thread with the proper list on it?

Tuomas - your suggestion sounds fine, we'll do it that way.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Mainly to bump this again:

I'm surprised at several tracks that didn't make it onto the nominations list. Most glaringly, T.V. Eye, New Rose, Rock With You, Superfly, Rebel Rebel, and a couple others that are escaping my mind at this moment. The albums list seems much more "complete". The huge number of Donna Summer singles and Bowie/Eno albums is crazy, too. Just think how many Prince and Smiths tracks are going to be nominated in the 80's poll.

Oh, King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown is also a surprise omission on the tracks list too.

whenuweremine (whenuweremine), Thursday, 10 February 2005 07:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Fuck, I forgot to nominate the Only Ones' debut album. Shit.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 14 February 2005 10:16 (nineteen years ago) link

I'll bump it this time. I was afraid this thing was due this week.

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Friday, 18 February 2005 02:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Cheers...saves me the bother.

I am also realising all the things I forgot to nominate.. I can't believe this poll is going ahead without any Grace Jones.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 10:14 (nineteen years ago) link

She told me she'd have her votes in by the end of the week.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 18 February 2005 11:08 (nineteen years ago) link

When I've counted your votes, I'll send you an e-mail to let you know. Give me a few days, and if you haven't had one, send me a message saying "OYHOBARTWHATTHEFUCKAREYOUARSEINGAROUNDAT??"

I think I voted in the singles poll but I don't remember getting an e-mail.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Friday, 18 February 2005 11:18 (nineteen years ago) link

I've got your mail, Jamie(err...or Horse..), I'm just not as up to date as I'd like to be... anyone who voted before friday should have been counted, as I'm currently doing the votes from last friday. I think you were saturday, so you should get that mail any time now..

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 11:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Alba - I reckon Grace Jones's votes would all be for herself.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 11:40 (nineteen years ago) link

Mind you, that's part of The Joy Of Grace.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 11:46 (nineteen years ago) link

i just saw this and i'm surprised that noone nominated Shaft, but since i didn't send in nominations can't complain too much

H (Heruy), Friday, 18 February 2005 11:52 (nineteen years ago) link

I was hoping someone would nominate "Loving You" by Minnie Ripperton, but since I nominated one of her other songs instead, I can't complain either.

Perhaps we should have an alternative "songs you forgot to nominate, or would have nominated but due to the crazy rules made up by some stupid fuxxor you didn't get chance" poll.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 12:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Which someone else will conduct, of course.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 12:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Grace Jones's website redefines notions of what a website can do.

James Brown - Give It Up Or Turn It A Loose
This was released in January 1969.

Same fate as "Ramble On"?

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 18 February 2005 13:09 (nineteen years ago) link

I think its too late for that now, as people have voted for it. Apparently, Toots and the Maytals is 1969 too..but again, I found this out after people had starting casting their votes - there will just have to be 1969 songs in the poll.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 13:13 (nineteen years ago) link

what i have discovered in attemtping this: the only thing worse than most 70s music is my taste in 70s music.

fsharp (fsharp), Friday, 18 February 2005 14:11 (nineteen years ago) link

Also missing - Maxine Nightingale - Let Me Down Easy.

I have discovered that I am, at heart, a disco queen.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 18 February 2005 14:22 (nineteen years ago) link

I've been steadfastly ignoring this poll up to now. But I have now read this thread and am surprised how many of my personal faves got nominated. Like with all the other recent polls, though, I kinda wish we could just stop here and not bother with the vote.

Jeff W, Friday, 18 February 2005 18:48 (nineteen years ago) link

a really weird thing about this just happened. i was going through, and making a "first cut" - songs and albums i have never heard or definitely dont want to vote for. after narrowing wantonly, i ended up with exactly 120 albums and 120 songs from which to choose 70 total. weird, huh??

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:50 (nineteen years ago) link

In hopes that Gilberto Gil's "Refazenda" will not be criminally ignored I have made it available here:

bump.

The vote counting is..ahem..running a little behind schedule, but don't let that put you off, get those votes in. You have two weeks left.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 25 February 2005 14:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Hang on, no you don't...4th Marth....that's ONE WEEK!!

hobart paving (hobart paving), Friday, 25 February 2005 21:21 (nineteen years ago) link

holy crap! how many people have voted? I haven't voted, have I?

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 25 February 2005 21:40 (nineteen years ago) link

Okay, so there's nothing else to do on a Friday night in Mississippi except listen to Space Ritual and work on my ballot. But what I want to know is how did the songs noms end without "Superstar" by the Carpenters and "New Rose" by the Damned? Dat's fucked up!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 26 February 2005 03:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Not many people had voted last night..I'm about to check now, but the number of female voters is also very low. I'm about halfway through counting the ballots I've received.

Bump.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Saturday, 26 February 2005 11:12 (nineteen years ago) link

Also...blurbs...we need more blurbs...

But votes would be good too. So far, this makes the last European Election look well attended.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Saturday, 26 February 2005 11:46 (nineteen years ago) link

And..how did we manage to forget "Knock on Wood" by Amii Stewart?

Grrrr..

hobart paving (hobart paving), Saturday, 26 February 2005 13:42 (nineteen years ago) link

I surprised myself by voting for "Born to Run" (the song).

RS, Saturday, 26 February 2005 14:55 (nineteen years ago) link

oh my gawd this took me an HOUR

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:11 (nineteen years ago) link

There are a lot of albums on this list that I have never heard. I wasn't buying albums for myself in the 70s and mostly have never gotten around to backtracking and buying old 70s rock/soul/funk/popingeneral albums. (And now I'm more interested in buying 70s salsa, so I may never buy Black Sabbath or Isaac Hayes albums, even though I'm pretty sure I'd like them.)

RS, Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:29 (nineteen years ago) link

Bump - again.

You have until saturday (rather than friday, as I won't be counting the votes until sunday).

There still isn't really a clear leader in the tracks poll. The albums are more widely spread but again, YOUR vote could make all the difference.

Oh yes it could.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 28 February 2005 18:37 (nineteen years ago) link

How many ppl have voted so far?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 28 February 2005 18:57 (nineteen years ago) link

about 25 in each... not everyone voted in both polls.

I think we need a few more to constitute a 'proper' poll.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 28 February 2005 19:24 (nineteen years ago) link

BUMP!

FOUR DAYS LEFT!!!

We need some more votes, or I'll have to extend the deadline/ make some up.

AND I still don't think we've had a female vote (my apologies if you're a woman, and you have voted, and I've just been confused by your username or something). There must be at least one female ilxer who remembers the 70s, musn't there?

I think I wound up doing 36 albums and 34 tracks, but then the next day I listened to the first B-52's album and I totally regrtted not including "Rock Lobster," my #35 single. :(

Mike O. (Mike Ouderkirk), Saturday, 5 March 2005 18:02 (nineteen years ago) link

Where is 'Drums and Wires'???
One of the best albums of the era, miles better than 'White Music'...
I really don't understand that.

zeus, Saturday, 5 March 2005 18:47 (nineteen years ago) link

Yea, the Drums n' Wires omissions in really bad. Same with Catch a Fire.

poortheatre (poortheatre), Saturday, 5 March 2005 18:57 (nineteen years ago) link

Well then you should've fucking nominated them, shouldn't you have?

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:47 (nineteen years ago) link

You can probably still sneak a vote in...

hobart?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 6 March 2005 12:03 (nineteen years ago) link

did Tim Buckley's Starsailor disappear off the albums list or is it just me?

dronez are not ours to eat, dronez are not ours to wear (smile), Sunday, 6 March 2005 13:58 (nineteen years ago) link

The December ILX outage really damaged this poll. Nobody's fault, but there it is. Okay, I'll say it: maybe in a year or so, we should try it all over again and see if anything changes?

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 6 March 2005 17:04 (nineteen years ago) link

(People could have double-checked to make sure their nominations were in place.)

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Sunday, 6 March 2005 17:23 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, definitely. And shit on anybody who complains about omissions but didn't make any nominations.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 6 March 2005 17:46 (nineteen years ago) link

So this is closed now, right?

Keith C (kcraw916), Friday, 15 April 2005 18:47 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm pissed — I wanted to vote but it took forever to do so, so I gave up. Lame.
