+ What was the soundtrack?

Millar (Millar), Friday, 15 August 2003 23:08 (twenty years ago) link

Duh it was "Maman a Tort" by Mylene Farmer.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 August 2003 23:16 (twenty years ago) link

actually, though I enjoyed bikes and skateboards, I found all the skater/biker culture etc to be a little oppressive, so I suggested to several nearby ones that they go over to a parked RV across the street and skate/bike off the top of it - "because that's what I would do" - I told them the stunts were called the "RV Special" and the "RV Impossible".

gareth (gareth), Friday, 15 August 2003 23:36 (twenty years ago) link

Spencer, you need to come hang out with us, preferably next time Gareth is around so you can see Forty Hands in action.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 15 August 2003 23:40 (twenty years ago) link

I've been practicing!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 August 2003 23:41 (twenty years ago) link

We'll do this in the basement of my workplace. The bike shit too.

I wanna see Nate Patrin ride around really fast in little tiny circles on a unicycle with John Darn13ll3 on his shoulders. Oh and Nate has to be wearing a clown nose and big red afro wig.

My best bike stunt = not falling off, btw. Well, that and that whole ninja bike throwing thing.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Saturday, 16 August 2003 16:22 (twenty years ago) link

I want to see Alex in NYC on a BMX come off a ramp and do that bit with the leg kick over the side

Laugh not, as this --- at one point in the distant past -- was not an unheard of endeavor (though I'd invariably have fucked it up and done a messy face-plant). I used to have a Supergoose frame way back in the 80's (and a handy friend who worked at Larry & Jeff's bike shop on the Upper East Side). Since I was simply not co-ordinated enough to maintain any semblance of balance (nor exude any effortless cool) on a sk8board (though I still have a second hand Uncle Wiggly Fish Stick, for those of you easily impressed by such things), I concentrated my efforts on BMXing.....and bizarrely won (!!!) a crappy Huffy Pro-Thunder in a box of Cheerios (their attempt at BMX). True story. The latter was later stolen right out from under me -- for only the price of a bloody nose -- right neear Bethesda Fountain in lovely Central Park. I sold my other BMX gear years ago. I do have a Trek mountain bike now (which I may go use right now, come to think of it).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 16 August 2003 19:27 (twenty years ago) link

i rode a bmx bike down a hill in vermont when i was 10 ... and damn near got myself killed when i crashed!

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 16 August 2003 19:28 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah but Alex, can you jump a barbed wire fence while being chased by Nazis? I think not.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 17 August 2003 06:52 (twenty years ago) link

or fail and get tangled up in said fence?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 17 August 2003 06:54 (twenty years ago) link

That's really not the spirit of bike stunts, you know.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 17 August 2003 06:57 (twenty years ago) link

true, but you never know what's gunna happen when the nazis come after ya.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 17 August 2003 06:59 (twenty years ago) link

More threads like this when I go out of town, plz.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 August 2003 21:59 (twenty years ago) link

someone should really post a picture of that dude from laugh-in who always fell of his bike, or something

I have a metal plate in my left arm, having broken it doing a forward somersault over my BMX handlebars.

It was a pretty neat trick at the time.

bert (bert), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 08:50 (twenty years ago) link

I will ride a tricycle off the roof of a 20-story building, landing on a trampoline, and do a triple flip into the dismount. The soundtrack will be "Judy in Disguise (with Glasses)."

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:07 (twenty years ago) link
