dope album, although i think i like some of the bonus tracks on the deluxe version more than the album proper

I love a good few of the songs on here ("Explode", "Spotlight", "Run Dry/Cryptozoology", "Everybody Wants Somebody", Allie", all the bonus tracks) but I just can't forget that the reason the dude learned to play all the instruments (and spent all his Fall Out Boy $$$) is because otherwise it'd be too obvious the songs were composed in Garageband.
I just need to get over my prejudice. Damon Albarn made his last record on his iPad, and it was awesome.

did he actually learn any instruments for this record though? he supposedly played drums in a bunch of bands pre-Fall Out Boy and it seems like everything else is guitars and synths to the same extent as on his outside productions over the past few years (in fact if he wanted to mask the software origins of the record he should've put way more guitar on here).

Trumpet, I think (even though I don't hear it anywhere).

also, because I didn't open this thread until today, I did not realize until just now that Patrick Stump was the singer of Fall Out Boy rather than some type of Youtube discovery

that makes no sense, you could see that the thread wasn't started by Tape Store before you opened it

he should really just take a breather and reinvent himself as a producer/songwriter. leaving Fueled By Ramen may surprisingly be the worst move he made since 3 of their acts have had huge pop hits in the past few months, 2 of which he used to work with a lot. he needs to get back on that gravy train and eventually remind people how much better he is than Cobra Starship douche.

i def feel like stuff on 'soul punk' could in an alternate universe be re-worked a bit and if sung by someone else be a hit
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 February 2012 16:50 (1 year ago) Permalink
yeah totally -- i wrote a thing a while back speculating on which songs could've made ideal single choices, ultimately couldn't convince myself that any of them are tailor-made for any radio format right now but "Everybody Wants Somebody" and "The 'I' In Lie" wouldn't take too much retooling to have hit potential.
Stump co-wrote a song on Bruno Mars's first EP, he should really get in on his next album, a lot of his stuff would be huge if Mars sung it
