. . .
it looks horrible though.
she said 'you don't have a glaswegian accent.' and I said 'yeah but I have a scottish accent.' and she said 'do you?!' now I'm saying 'what?!' she was very nice though, I think I was a little rude at one time but I didn't mean it. I normally feel uncomfortable on the phone.

The Captain's Rest is a funny wee pub. I used to live across the road from it. I think I have been to some birthday parties there.

Glasgow, I've missed you. just arrived for a three day conferencel at SECC and staying across the road at the Campanile. currently sitting in the hotel bar and wondering whether a restaurant next door which boasts Japanese, Thai and Chinese cuisine via a large neon sign could possibly be any good

Have any Glaswegians seen Tavernier's Death Watch. Don't think I've ever seen a city photographed on film so lovingly well as this.

The first shot of the cemetery is one for all time.
saw it at the glasgow film theater last week :-) am always keen to catch old film of my adopted hometown, and yes, loved the dusky, twilight quality to many of the images. it was interesting to see that parts of the city centre have hardly changed in thirty years - i immediately recognised st vincents street, where i work. that cemetery is the necropolis, which is a pretty photogenic place (and about ten minutes away from my flat); it also turns up in The Angels' Share funnily enough, along with other parts of the East End (Mark S wrote a v gd review of the Loach for S&S, btw)

Interested in The Angels' Share - a Ken Loach comedy, don't think I've seen one..

I loved it.

hi madchen!
the angels's share is v v funny in places, but one of the gd things abt it is the way that loach complicates the characters - there's a really moving and brilliantly acted scene where the lead guy is confronted with the effect of his violent behaviour. i can understand why they're billing it as 'the scottish full monty' on the posters, but of course it's not really v helpful or accurate to think of it in that way
― Ward Fowler, Thursday, 14 June 2012 08:02 (11 months ago) Permalink
Yes, that scene was superb.
