complextroll, complexbro, complexbrostep, etc.

dayo, Saturday, 1 October 2011 17:42 (twelve years ago) link

What is Complextro?: A new genre that stemmed from 'electro'.This genre is complex, hence the name, with artists producing basslines/leads that are very intricate sometimes involving 8+ different synth sounds per 2 bar loop. Artists like Feed Me, Skrillex, Uppermost, Wolfgang Gartner and even Deadmau5 have all taken shots at producing it. (With Grand Results)

re: complextro etc

i don't know if this was the board/thread in which i already mentioned how much wolfgang gartner is one of my favorite house producers ever, joey youngman! (aka mario fabriani, white collar criminals, frequent flyers, etc). it's like he spent a good half-decade or so banging out jackin tracks, got bored of only being acknowledged by house nerds and went for the money w/electo and bro-y stuff. he used to be all:

then at one point he was selling full packs of all of his samples and the next year was onto wolfgang gartner.

geeta, Saturday, 1 October 2011 18:19 (twelve years ago) link

Brostep's got more in common with electro than og dubstep these days.

dog latin, Saturday, 1 October 2011 18:19 (twelve years ago) link

It's got more in common with drill and bass tbh

I think I've mentioned a couple times that Noisia isn't bad, based on the one track of theirs that was in Wipeout HD that the tune is space also linked in another thread

i hope you say it like 'moesha'. also chris s otm, 'michael bay-step' is probably the future of this stuff

I feel as though friends and acquaintances Have been trying to shove Noisia down my throat like Cod liver oil in an orphanage these last few years. So far I've pretty much resisted because, well, it's a racket I'm never really in the mood for, but it's funny we're only just discussing this now.

michael bay-step == pretends to have a plot, actually just hyperactive genre cliches replayed fast enough and poorly enough?

I'm hanging on to "brastep" for girly stuff.

Love that cartoon upthread. At this point people sniffily defending real dubstep are perhaps more of a problem than LISTEN TO DUBSTEP bros vomiting all over their computer speakers.

Tim F, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 22:07 (twelve years ago) link

holy shit that weetabix commercial

I feel sorry for the DEFEND REAL DUBSTEP types not cause brostep usurped their thunder so much as cause they don't realize their music sux too.

turfin' bird (The Reverend), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 23:41 (twelve years ago) link

what is "real dubstep" according to these types?

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 23:49 (twelve years ago) link

inquiring minds want to know

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 00:58 (twelve years ago) link

It's a moving goalpost I think. There are people who defend the real dubstep of benga/skream from the rank broisms of skrillex et. al. but this strikes me as fairly narc of sd.

The cartoon is probably about people who miss the glory days of DMZ and nowadays collect Swamp 81 records.

Tim F, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:07 (twelve years ago) link

i ask because there seem to be many def'ns of "real dubstep". is it skream? rusko? youngsta?

all are plying rather different trades these days

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:11 (twelve years ago) link

Agreed.

But in this sense it's not really any different to people talking about "real" house / techno / jungle / trance etc.

Perhaps a sign of a genre's maturity when this happens. A bit scary to think that the first officially-designated "dubstep" mix (that I'm aware of) is now almost 10 years old.

Tim F, Thursday, 6 October 2011 01:18 (twelve years ago) link
