shit teyana taylor "google me" is really good
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:08 (sixteen years ago) link
i was all set to hate on it because i saw her episode of my super sweet 16 and she was a total brat and completely unlikable-- maybe playing up to the shows rep, and google me obv does nothing to mask her conceitedness-- but the chorus is really lush even though the rapping is just C+ at best

Ne-Yo - Closer
in the vein of "the way i are" and "please dont stop the music" or riding their coattails?
― gr8080, Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:13 (sixteen years ago) link
i think there was some talk about that in the r&b thread grady

yeah like, pharrell was in it and they said she was signed to star trek. she was wearing bathing apes and ice creams etc. and i never thought i'd hear a word from her again but whaddya know
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:21 (sixteen years ago) link
i give her the benefit of the doubt kinda because i'm sure mtv edits the shit out those to make every subject seem like a total bitchy brat
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:22 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah i mean that's the draw of the show
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:23 (sixteen years ago) link
MADE is filming at my school, and they've asked several of my friends to talk shit about their subject.

what's the person wanna be made into?
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:27 (sixteen years ago) link
they've gone through at least three people, i think. first one wanted to be a prom queen, they showed up and asked her to be a cheerleader, she was pissed but went on until they decided to stop...another guy wanted to be a ladies man and is still filming, i think??? there's a third girl, and i don't remember what she wants to be
― Tape Store, Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:31 (sixteen years ago) link
oh lol i didn't know the process was like that
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 23 March 2008 05:32 (sixteen years ago) link
i was always like "who the fuck would apply to be on made"
admittedly i don't watcha s much mtv as i used to but how did a group i've never heard of in my life just sell 190 thousand copies of an album
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 April 2008 21:21 (sixteen years ago) link
did they even have a single on the charts? a mention in the r&b thread even?
you've never heard of Dannity Kane?

I really just barely started to hear the Day26 single during the week of the album release, it hasn't gotten very far up the charts yet (not in the Hot 100, down at #39 on R&B chart). I guess it just goes to show that TV trumps music in terms of audience size every time, even w/ some random basic cable show that nobody I know watches.
― Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 2 April 2008 21:50 (sixteen years ago) link
by that logic tila tequilla would be able to move like 2.6 million copies in her first week if she dropped an album
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 April 2008 21:52 (sixteen years ago) link
not that i disagree with you at all
day 26 is fairly popular w/ 106&Park viewers because QWANELL AND WILLIE ARE SO HAWT OMG. so I'm not surprised that they went to #1. Their album has some bangers on it.. "Together" = !!!.
― The Brainwasher, Wednesday, 2 April 2008 21:55 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah i know, a dozen used bin fillers from American Idol can disprove what i said, but it's not a hard and fast rule (ok i said "every time" but disregard that). just i'm never surprised when reality shows and random background music on Grey's Anatomy have a huge impact on music sales.

man bleeding love is awesome. i didn't realize it until i found out that one republic dude wrote it, but it kinda gets exactly where 'apologize' wanted to but didn't-- adult 40/hot 100 crossover but not in a mariah/mary j way in terms of produciton, def fancies itself as a forward thinking pop song with the drums, and whether it actually is or not i'm not sure but it sure stands out like i think 'apologize' wanted to
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:11 (sixteen years ago) link
I surrendered to "No Air" just recently, but "Bleeding Love" hasn't gotten to me yet.
― Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:17 (sixteen years ago) link
"bleeding love" is great (if a bit maudlin), but those drums are terrible... they're incredibly cheap sounding.
― The Brainwasher, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:21 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah brainwasher otm about the drums
ive totally surrendered to no air-- personally the song wouldn't work w/o brown's thin, fragile (i guess some people would call it awful) voice
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:24 (sixteen years ago) link
like if they got a dude singer who could hit high notes and run like sparks it would be way too much
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:25 (sixteen years ago) link
The wonky drums are my favorite thing about "Bleeding Love," it's the tune that doesn't quite stick with me.
I've poured the haterade on CB plenty of times but I have no problem with him on "No Air," I don't think his voice is necessarily weak on it, just relatively restrained.
― Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 3 April 2008 19:28 (sixteen years ago) link
Whoa, I didn't realize that "Bleeding Love" had made it to #1: Leona Lewis is, amazingly, the first British woman to hit #1 on the US chart since Kim Wilde in 1987.
― jaymc, Thursday, 10 April 2008 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link
only in midst of a serious economic downturn could something like "bleeding love" hit #1

Huh? Billboard tells me Mariah is still #1 with Leona #2.

Leona was #1 for one week before Mariah took it for the last two weeks.

Oops! I was getting all amazed that it had leaped over Mariah. Although it's still pretty impressive to jump back over Madonna (sure it's 2008 Madonna, but still).

i'd feel lame linking to Idolator here but Molanphy's column goes into a lot of detail about it:
