carey, even though I've only seen her on Doctor Who and the Bleak House miniseries. She was way more memorable in both those shows and the ten minutes of An Education that I caught than all of Michelle Williams roles put together (scrolling through her imdb page, I've seen BM, Synecdoche, Deception, and I'm Not There and pretty much forgot she was in all of them).

Williams has a depth of character and gravitas she can bring to the table that Carey doesn't yet, from what I've seen of her. Surprised at the dislike of CM. Williams is the clear winner for me.

otm, and even when she was on Dawson's Creek you could tell there was an adventurousness about her (around the same time she was pretty good in If These Walls Could Talk 2). Wendy & Lucy made me really aware of how much she'd matured, and she just killed it in Blue Valentine

I think we'll have a better idea about Carey later this year when we've had a chance to see both DRIVE and SHAME. But she's very good in AN EDUCATION and also NEVER LET ME GO.

BLUE VALENTINE is bad, much worse than AN EDUCATION, which has a few missteps (Paris + ending) but is mostly very fun comfort food.

dawsons creek was a thing that existed, i doubt it's better or worse than 90210 or whatever kids of 2011 watch.

this, in terms of films. but the opposite in terms of cuteness. i think cm may be my #1 celebrity crush right now.

that vogue cover really doesn't work, nor do the photos inside from what i can tell online. i still love you, though, michelle!

mw seems like a real human being, however pixie-ish, whereas carey mulligan actually looks like she just stepped out of an enchanted wardrobe or some shit, which i cannot abide.

1. she is v. talented, shining in otherwise shit movies (shutter island) or making otherwise dull ideas worth watching (wendy and lucy)
2. she is v. pretty
3. she seems chill, from the rare amount of interviews she does. none of that 'that girl so annoying that i want to fuck her' stuff, that girl is nice so ilx is in love.

didn't she just get set on fire in 'shutter island'? i can't remember, and i even liked that film a little. emily mortimer actually shone iirc.

being pretty isn't that unusual among top-tier actresses, though id agree that vanity fair did her no favours with the marilyn thing. (well: sorta: it's not all VF: she has done a film playing marilyn. but they made emma stone look less than lovely which is a kind of achievement.)

i think someone told me carey mulls is an irl lovely person but i might have got wires crossed.

Carey is mostly good in underwhelming films (An Education, Never Let Me Go) but hasn't really got much under her belt yet. Going "there is essentially no point in her existing" is a fucking weird thing to say.

I've barely seen anything Michelle's been in actually, but I get the feeling Carey is several years behind her in terms of career.

Also I'm not sure I believe all these people who are bigging up Michelle like she's Cate Blanchett or something.
