I haven't seen a single decent Mulligan movie or performance.

michelle >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> carey!!!!

not sure why i have such strong feelings about this.

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Friday, 9 September 2011 18:09 (2 years ago) Permalink

Her specialty is cute bobble-headed sincerity, and it makes my skin crawl.

Anakin Ska Walker (AKA Skarth Vader) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 9 September 2011 18:09 (2 years ago) Permalink

love michelle. didn't realize everyone hated carey. i don't think i've ever seen her in anything.

i thought her precocious schoolgirl movie was ok

Mulligan was the only thing in the Wall Street sequel that didn't make me irrationally angry

although there was so much TheBeef in that movie, TheBeefing all over the place, I might have given anyone a free pass in that role

Mulligan cried a lot in Wall Street 2, didn't she

well her dad was a total dick in it, it's not a surprise

Williams gets more impressive and handsome with each movie.

michelle williams is best friends with busy phillips
carey mulligan used to date shia lebeouf

rip van wanko, Friday, 9 September 2011 18:31 (2 years ago) Permalink

Yeah, Carey is charming and adorable, but I respect Michelle more as an actress and person.

*ter jacket (jaymc), Friday, 9 September 2011 18:32 (2 years ago) Permalink

In interviews, Michelle is so serious sometimes that it comes off as haughty, but I think she's just someone who finds a lot of reward in acting and isn't as comfortable with all the other trappings of celebrity.

*ter jacket (jaymc), Friday, 9 September 2011 18:35 (2 years ago) Permalink

Well, when you've got an elephant in the room like MW's dead babydaddy...

Much love for Carey, but Michelle is Binoche-like in her ability to get more beautiful as the years move on.

Gukbe, Friday, 9 September 2011 18:43 (2 years ago) Permalink

omg MICHELLE!!!

otm everyone itt so far, but also she is a nice person. she kindly held a door for me at a show in chapel hill(bright eyes/grandaddy iirc lol had to have been at least 10 years ago) -- she was there b/c of dawson's creek and also she was dating some local musician dude -- and her beauty was like a dazzling bright light, no exaggeration

it's also hard to know how carey will age because she is 15

Gotta say I'm pretty trepidatious about Michelle's forthcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic, though.

Michelle wins vs anyone. No problem with Carey but she needs to get some good movies / roles. Oh that 'Drive' looks good.

abcfsk, Friday, 9 September 2011 20:06 (2 years ago) Permalink

people who LOATHE carey are pretty fuckin weird. she has poor taste in guys i guess [off colour 'hope mumford guy kills himself, that way they'd be even more similar' joek] but enh.

voted carey bc she does better work in 'an education' and 'never let me go' than i've seen from MW. who i don't dislike, but i had to look at imdb to see what she's done. there's a few things i ought to watch but im not bowled over. and im somewhat more stoked for 'shame' than MW playing marilyn.

too twee. i'm not super into girls who look like small boys. i've only seen her in lame movies and she wasn't good in them. can see where the hate comes from. although personally cgaf.

you've got male (jim in glasgow), Friday, 9 September 2011 20:28 (2 years ago) Permalink

'an education' was great, but prob not pretty and boring enough for ppl who think douglas sirk films set the high water mark for cinema.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Friday, 9 September 2011 20:29 (2 years ago) Permalink

On no, actually An Education was plenty boring enough.

Gus Van Sant's Gerry Blank (Eric H.), Friday, 9 September 2011 20:30 (2 years ago) Permalink

Don't people hate Carey for the same reason they dislike Zooey Deschanel: wide-eyed doll-like ingenues that "sensitive" dudes fawn over?

em vee equals pea queue (Michael White), Friday, 9 September 2011 20:36 (2 years ago) Permalink

An Education is so boring it could only have been directed by a man.

Anakin Ska Walker (AKA Skarth Vader) (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 9 September 2011 20:37 (2 years ago) Permalink

I haven't seen a single Mulligan movie or performance, except the Bleak House miniseries apparently, in which I didn't recall her.

However, she has legit stage chops it seems -- I would've gone to the off-Bway version of Through a Glass Darkly if I had the cash. And I will be seeing Shame in about 3 weeks.

jaymc, it's A WEEK with Marilyn that M.W. is playing, so it's not a biopic.

seconding carey mulligan as a stage actress. i saw her in the seagull, and she was fantastic.

kaygee, Thursday, 15 September 2011 04:38 (2 years ago) Permalink

while she has no character and doesn't do anything to elevate a part that was barely written at all, Mulligan is pretty stunning in Drive.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 04:58 (2 years ago) Permalink

^^^This. The key thing is Mulligan photographs well, and they built on that. That one bit where she's fixing her hair before going out on the drive, the scene where we find out the husband's coming home, really got to me.

1 month passes...

Michelle recently opened up to Elle about her hair: “What [my daughter] Matilda would love is for her mom to grow out the cropped hair, though that’s unlikely to happen any time soon. I’ve really grown into it - I feel like myself with short hair. And it’s been a really long time since I had long hair, five years. Of course, the only people who like it are gay men and my girlfriends. Straight men across the board are not into this hair!”

buzza, Wednesday, 16 November 2011 18:10 (2 years ago) Permalink

Her hair looks amazing super short like that. Not many people carry that off well but she does so perfectly. Straight men should STFU.

5 months pass...

Actress Carey Mulligan shunned traditional wedding shoes and wore rain boots as she exchanged vows with folk rocker Marcus Mumford in the English countryside on Saturday.

Shame = first time I sort of didn't mind Carey. I would say it must've helped her to be surrounded by such a completely horrible movie, but that didn't work when it was An Education, so she must have improved in the in between.
