i'm keeping my personal hats out of this spiritual poll, but i voted early and i voted for thembi hat

there is going to be a lot of ilxors going 'wtf' at all the mentions of 'spiritual hats' on ilx.

I want to vote for Thembi but i feel i'm voting for the full ensemble rather than the hat alone. Sun Ra one is not a hat imo.

I Swear i have seen this video of Thelonious Monk where after a solo he very pointedly takes of his hat, puts it down on the piano bench a does a little dance around it.

voted for the 1st lonnie liston one there. hella funky but not outlandish enough to get you immediately committed if worn in public.

I voted for the 1st Lonnie hat too, looks awesome but practical, plus I have fond memories of hippie girls in the 90s wearing hats like that.

I saw a lot of spiritual hats last night at the ~world premiere~ of the Chicago Underground Duo with Pharaoh Sanders, but none of them were on PS's head. He wore no hat!

perhaps he wore a hat so spiritual it exists only on another plane!

There was also a very tall man who appeared on stage 3x to do some deep-voiced ululation (?) and provide inspirational words, but he was not introduced. He just walked out, said his stuff, disappeared, repeated at the middle and end of the set, and then disappeared back behind the curtains. He had to be at least 7 feet tall. Pretty much all I could see of PS was his glowing white hair and goatee.
