not sure id be giving him this chance if he hadnt given the world love-hate but for now, i approve

feel like '5. WEDDING CRASHER' has genuine potential

i don't hate this, the end is quite pretty. i don't want him to reign in 'sounding like the-dream' tho wtf

YOU KNEW IT WAS OVER I KNOW YOU DID

I KNEW IT WAS OVER YOU KNEW I DID

EVERYONE KNEW IT WAS OVER

SO WAKE ME WHEN IT’S OVER

i like this, from a writing standpoint

i feel where deej is coming from -- also sounding less like the-dream is sorta the whole point of this project, like it or not

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 30 August 2011 08:12 (1 year ago) Permalink

it's a free internet album, i'm not shocked that he's indulging his less commercial impulses -- at least it's not a rock album!

anyway i think this is pretty cool, i might dig a whole LP that was like this!

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 30 August 2011 08:13 (1 year ago) Permalink

the relationship with terius as a recording artist and me as a listener is so complicated now that maybe i don't even know what i want. maybe i don't even know

seasoning sauce all over me (tpp), Tuesday, 30 August 2011 08:17 (1 year ago) Permalink

this is way better than "murderer" anyway

i think that song was anti-pop in all the wrong ways... the production was really wonky in a way that i'm sure he thought was profound & different but it was just kinda shitty -- this is a much more agreeable attempt at not making an overt pop song imo

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 30 August 2011 08:23 (1 year ago) Permalink

are ppl still talking about 'body work / fuck my brains out' -- i havent listened to either since they dropped basically .zzzzz

he repeats the "eh-eh-eh-ah-eh" part from "bed" at the end

i definitely approve of this album

so many things to say about the big sean verse

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 06:16 (1 year ago) Permalink

he needs to get his ass beat for calling himself "B.I.G." multiple times on this

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 06:17 (1 year ago) Permalink

"wedding crasher" > "florida university"

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 06:21 (1 year ago) Permalink

big sean either unintentionally riffs on ER's "so good" or he makes some sly allusions to it, in which case... props

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 06:23 (1 year ago) Permalink

my irl rap friend was repping hard for that big sean album.

fwiw he is not to be trusted

my main irl rap friend, i should say

You need a three strikes rule, maybe Big Sean praise is worthy of all 3 strikes though. I wish I had an irl rap friend.

spanish guitar on "long gone"!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 09:38 (1 year ago) Permalink

Is this good then? I was kinda braced for it being terrible given that a man with Terius's quality control was willing to give it away free.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 09:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

i'm only a few tracks in, nothing blew me away until "long gone"

"ghetto", which comes after it, is TERRIBLE. who is this big sean person

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 09:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

seems a lot more consciously diaristic than anything he's ever done before

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 10:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

which means there's a lot more of a sense of ~the real terius~

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 10:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

that's not necessarily a good thing :/

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 10:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

sounds pretty though, mostly, in a low-key way not in a "here are my epic song suites" way

i'm only on #2 but the minimalism is nice; the melody's almost like some kinda soft rhodes part & much of the song just goes in loops

<3 wedding crasher. on some love/hate sh!t imo

on first listen i think this is pretty great

mutant slow drum (BradNelson), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 16:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

less about the sudden left-turns of the previous two records, more about setting up an environment in which terius can oscillate for 5 minutes at a time. swampy yet translucent r&b.

mutant slow drum (BradNelson), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 16:48 (1 year ago) Permalink

Getting heavy Drake and R. Kelly vibes from the first few tracks.

more about setting up an environment in which terius can oscillate for 5 minutes at a time is absolutely right. Holding back on an opinion for now.

Wedding Crasher aside this is sounding like the collection of shitty offcuts it probably is.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 17:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

^^ could barely get through the first 4 songs. 1977 is alright too.
