Googling that turned up a lyrics annotation site that made the point that it is sort of better than most grocery bags as it has some kind of double meaning: he "lays" his opponents down (because mattresses are things you "lay" on), but also, implicitly, the opponents must be flaccid weaklings (because mattresses are soft and floppy). So that's kind of okay, by the admittedly lower standards of these things.
