TLC are (um, were) one of the few, maybe the only, recent R&B groups with strong enough personalities & songwriting skills to be more than mere vehicles of expression for their producers. A few days ago a friend and I were talking about how you can determine what type of person you're talking to by asking them "who did that song 'Creep' in the early nineties?" I'd much rather be around a person who said "TLC" than a person who said "Radiohead" or "Stone Temple Pilots". Top 40 Radio's taking some hits - Ashanti and Destiny's Child are no Aaliyah and TLC.

Admittedly, I should note that for any future Googlers out on the warpath that my flip comment aside, I was long a fan of TLC and it was clearly a horrible way for Lopes to die. But anyone who thinks sick humor doesn't in fact exist lives in fantasyland.

^^^ If I can recall, she was doing some charity type work in Honduras. I think she even adopted a little girl from there as well.

She threatened to quit prior to the recording of "FanMail," and was reportedly infuriated that none of the eight songs she had written for the album made the final cut. Presumably there are demos of these somewhere, or even finished mixed versions that just didn't get released.

Also, I don't think any of those TLC demos she wrote for FanMail ever leaked except one I believe. Here is the 2000's version of it:

It's too bad because she was what made the first album so memorable, and the raps she did thereafter were great as well. I believe her rap on "Waterfalls" is what makes that song spectacular. She is never talked about when the topic of female MC's come up which is strange.

For the first time in nearly a decade, TLC will be reuniting for a U.S. concert tour later this year -- and TMZ has learned, the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes will be making a special appearance.

The group's rep tells us, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas are currently in the planning stages of a massive 2012 reunion tour in the U.S.

So far, we're told 5 major cities have already been booked -- and even more are in the works.

But the big surprise ... we're told the group plans to pull a Tupac -- incorporating their deceased former member Left Eye in the shows, projecting her image on a big screen and working her vocals into the live performances.

FYI -- today marks 10 years since a fatal car accident in Honduras took Left Eye's life. RIP.
