BLACK BEYONCE, Monday, 11 August 2008 16:34 (fifteen years ago) link

Dan, are you going to take John's advice? Please advise.

tehresa - so sorry about the insomnia! Of course I do blame myself.

Not much going on here today. I will eat many cookies.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

MAKE WITH THE UNCOMFORTABLE HUGGING

BLACK BEYONCE, Monday, 11 August 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

uhhhh so boss and i are emailing in real time. waiting for inevitability of him reading my resignation email and flipping out.

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 16:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Awwwwwkard...

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 17:05 (fifteen years ago) link

he seems rather irked. hmm.

2 more weeks, 2 more weeks...

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 17:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Hopefully it will fly by for you. It's not your problem if he's irked.

Ms Misery, Monday, 11 August 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

i know, but god is he gonna be miserable to be around...

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I suppose it would be rude to say, "yeah, this crazy behavior of yours is why I can't stay..."

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 17:10 (fifteen years ago) link

haha might be just a tad bit too much!

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 17:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Ed, Monday, 11 August 2008 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 18:01 (fifteen years ago) link

so not hugging anyone as it will be a one-way ticket to Sexualharrassmentville

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 18:01 (fifteen years ago) link

I hear it's nice there this time of year.

xp That's right, you have to hold out for "sane boss," plus chocolates.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 18:10 (fifteen years ago) link

My boss has chilled quite a bit in the past few months. But his past insanity helped lead to my departure. Whatevs, so long suckahs, etc.

Do you have something else lined up, tehresa?

Ms Misery, Monday, 11 August 2008 18:50 (fifteen years ago) link

not quite. 2 very strong leads. one of them will result in a phone call at 5pm today that, if all goes well, could put me on a very slow (i.e. starting at the very, very bottom of the totem poll, but a very worthy totem poll) path to greatness. i am going to jinx it!

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 18:53 (fifteen years ago) link

Sounds like you have some good possibilities... no jinxing allowed.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

want to buy a guitar store?

BLACK BEYONCE, Monday, 11 August 2008 19:55 (fifteen years ago) link

I can paid you in promo CDs for it.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:22 (fifteen years ago) link

zzzzz can not stay awake!

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:29 (fifteen years ago) link

I am eating yogurt to ward off a nap myself.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:39 (fifteen years ago) link

You've handled the nap but what are you going to do about the ZOMBIES

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:44 (fifteen years ago) link

What kind of self-respecting zombie would eat a yogurt-eating hippy like me? They'd have to be pretty desperate.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

but you are made of cookies!!!

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Good point. I'd better hide.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:52 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm taking a package of Twizzlers with me, but leaving a trail of cookie crumbs going the other directions. I WILL FOOL THE MONSTERS

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:53 (fifteen years ago) link

only the cookie monsters

omar little, Monday, 11 August 2008 20:54 (fifteen years ago) link

Cookie cookie cookie starts with C

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:00 (fifteen years ago) link

tehresa, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:07 (fifteen years ago) link

I love that Cookie Monster song.

Also "If Moon Were Cookie."

I have a whole Cookie Monster cd on my iPod.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:12 (fifteen years ago) link

I never pegged you as a metal fan!

HI DERE, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I hide it well.

Sara R-C, Monday, 11 August 2008 21:20 (fifteen years ago) link

so my boss informally presented me with a job opportunity i was not expecting, but that (a) involves a pay raise and (b) involves benefits. i would like to take it, but a coworker of mine has been doing work in the department where the promotion is presented and is (probably) better suited and will be crushed when he does not receive it. i am not /dependent/ on the job, though it would be nice to receive the promotion. i am unsure whether to pursue it. can i do it in good conscience?

remy bean, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 02:10 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh I have no idea. Has the coworker been there longer than you?

Guess what? My Internets are slowly starting to work again. So exciting!!!! Except I don't want to get too excited; my ISP may just be having an accidental evening of mostly working.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:29 (fifteen years ago) link

coworker has been around for two years longer than me.

remy bean, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Hmmmmm. Any chance this person has declined being promoted for some reason? (maybe?)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:35 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah if they deserve it so much why is it being offered to you?
clearly either your boss is awful or they aren't promotable.
if you take it, you may be being a dick to them, if you don't take it, you're definitely being a dick to your boss.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:38 (fifteen years ago) link

I mean if you're in a position to question the management's decision-making ability in this matter then you owe it to the organization to get on the fast track to management so you can make better decisions.

remy on the job

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:39 (fifteen years ago) link

that is a good and potentially ego-saving way of looking at it, tom. i guess i will wait for the formal offer before i decide anything.

remy bean, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:41 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm inclined to agree with that assessment.

UGH, Facebook still useless to me. At least I can look at my Netflix queue again.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 04:42 (fifteen years ago) link

Remy, if they want you to do the job instead of other dude then they a) consider you a better bet and b) don't think the other dude is the best choice. If you turn it down then they'd be promoting other dude unwillingly - or of course they'll promote/hire a third party and you'll both miss out.

It will almost always be the case that someone misses out in cases like this. You, however, have clearly earned the promotion by being better at your job than other dude. It's a reward to you, not a slap to the other guy. Turning it down would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.

(though of course it does you credit that you have moral concerns)

Mark C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 10:37 (fifteen years ago) link

what he said. also - how close/friendly are you with the other guy? there may be some discomfort/tension at first, but it will eventually blow over i'd bet.

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 12:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Remy, if you want it, take it. While it's good that you're such a thoughtful person passing over something that's good for you in that situation is a little too alturistic .

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 13:31 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf dude, TAKE THE JOB

ALWAYS TAKE THE JOB (unless it involves messy killing) (and even then it depends on the $$$)

HI DERE, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 13:53 (fifteen years ago) link

For enough money, Dan will engage in messy killing, and also cleaning up after messy killing.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, I've been having minor hysterics at my computer reading the "one hundred minor embarrassments" thread. Especially any of it that involves Dan's parents.

So thanks, remy, for starting that one. I'm just sorry I didn't see it when it started!
