If we were in the South End instead of Somerville, my posts would all be like "we bought a chair, now we have to throw out the bed to make it fit" or "oh shit my money, why is it all in my rent/mortgage"

(also my "home office" is really "side-nook in the living room with a sheet hanging over it to close it off")

I just got out of the house, went to Jerry's and spent $40 on a food-shop that would cost $20 tops in London. Damn.

...but I have Ambassador wieners. And I had a corn dog, to go.

Do I have to ask why my dog is stalking me now?

we are truly in a bad economy when a librarian and a small business owner rise to the ranks of the economic elite. xposts

just1n3, Sunday, 21 December 2008 03:24 (fifteen years ago) link

you will notice that i am still posting on the internets which means that i am not on an airplane? why you ask? because my flight was canceled again and there is nothing i can do to get home til tuesday, and even then, it would be flying through columbus and cincinnati to some out of the way place like charlotte where i'd still ahve to drive an hour and a half to get home. so. i am taking a bus to dc in the am and hitching a ride to richmond with my sister and her husband, who will continue to norfolk while my father drives up from sc to get me in richmond, turn around and take me back home.

fuck an air travel.

No chance, got one of our snowblowing neighbours to give me a hand. 10 minutes later, job done.

Meat ROFL (suzy), Monday, 22 December 2008 02:01 (fifteen years ago) link

i just fapped with ned and libcrypt, and made my first ever 911 call...

heading out of sf, just about to get on the freeway, tons of traffic, and we notice that our lane is not moving and tons of cars are cutting out. we finally decide to follow suit after we realise the car in front of us isn't moving. as we pull alongside i see this guy slumped over so i called 911. wasn't anywhere for us to pullover and it was pouring with rain... hope the guy is okay.

just1n3, Monday, 22 December 2008 02:23 (fifteen years ago) link

i have finally made it home after a very long day. so glad to be here!
how was lib?

thieverend (tehresa), Monday, 22 December 2008 03:05 (fifteen years ago) link

libcrypt was way cool, really nice dude.

just1n3, Monday, 22 December 2008 03:07 (fifteen years ago) link

1. Snowblowers are awesome and this year pretty much necessary
2. I hope that guy was okay, too; good for you for calling 911. I hope your FAP was enjoyable other than that!
3. Yay, tehresa made it home!

Sara R-C, Monday, 22 December 2008 03:33 (fifteen years ago) link

j. and j. and lib and his wife = all the roxor. :-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 December 2008 04:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Ned! Have to solve a California mystery over the hols concerning relatives who owned a giant construction company in LA/OC in early C20, can you help? They built, amongst other things, Huntington Beach Pier.

Wow, J -- glad you guys called 911! Mental image of all these people just driving away as if nothing more than a stuck car not cool, good thing you tried to alert someone and w/o sounding like a hippy, good karma there.. Also sounds like you had a fab birthday. Me, just killing time until Mom gets back from Florida at 1am.

Sara R-C, Monday, 22 December 2008 06:33 (fifteen years ago) link

It were great it were.

S., let me get back to you on your question later in the week when I can more readily get hold of people who might know...

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 December 2008 17:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Thanks Ned, I'm looking for stuff that happened btwn 1912-1920, hit me up on Facebook as don't want to incur the wrath of the interweb, if you know what I mean! All the stuff is on public records that are ringfenced so genealogy obsessives will pay for the info. We're trying to find out what happened to a family trust.

Meat ROFL (suzy), Monday, 22 December 2008 19:51 (fifteen years ago) link

^^^ suzy has made us all afraid of the genealogy mafia!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 17:31 (fifteen years ago) link

fuck the genealogy mafia with beesticks

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link

What's a geneaology mafia? I hope it's not the DAR or somesuch, my gran wouldn't join on principle (I didn't blame her).

I just think it's wrong that I can't check all voter, census or newspaper records to find out WTF happened to my great-grandfather, his father and his uncle.

Meat ROFL (suzy), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 17:47 (fifteen years ago) link

I think the important question here is "what is a beestick?!"

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh, that too.

Damn, I'm bored. I've done the shoveling and idiot cold-callers keep phoning my mom's landline and when she is not home, they ask if they can phone tomorrow. Finally I said 'on Christmas Eve?' Use your brain OH WAIT you're in a call centre QED.

Meat ROFL (suzy), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:27 (fifteen years ago) link

"beestick" = "stick with bees on it"

^likes black girls (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Thanks for that clarification, Daniel.

suzy, being bored is bad. I have no good suggestions other than to hide in a warm bed and read trashy fiction. I would do that myself, except I have articles to read and online "discussion questions" to answer.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:35 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm still none the wiser as to waht is genealogy mafia.

I'm going Uptown and Downtown momentarily, it's much warmer than it was, but first a little lunch so I don't pig out on the road.

Meat ROFL (suzy), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 19:42 (fifteen years ago) link

"genealogy mafia" = "something that gets created when Sara misreads one of your posts"
