Really feeling the energy in the Andy Jay & S-Tee mix, are they on the radio anywhere?

jimitheexploder, Friday, 5 August 2011 19:26 (twelve years ago) link

r|t|c, amazing find!

etc, Monday, 8 August 2011 14:04 (twelve years ago) link

man ive listened to a few of those radio raving mixes recently but this is next level

just sayin, Monday, 8 August 2011 16:23 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah that's a belter of a mix, much closer to what we fell in love with in the first place.

http://www.totalkiss.com/kisspresents/2011/07/02/dj-pioneer-uk-funky-showcase-020711/

just to reiterate that fuzzy logik's mix on this is tremendous fun also. (i dunno about everyone else but i'd passed it over a bit after dbs first brought attention, wrongly thinking cos i knew most the tracks it'd be standard.)

'twiss' is still SO GOOD!!!

LR.Groove & Miss Fire – Yours

^ been obsessing over this one a bit lately too, in tandem with the rebecca france remix. the brilliance of this vocal stuff has really taken me aback, there's been no hint of it to date even when he was good. (new "tribal" stuff isnt a patch on his earlier material from the key ep imo). if anything's the new dem 2/new horizons skippy dubby descendant it's this i reckon.

quick clip here

r|t|c, Friday, 12 August 2011 11:09 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah "Yours" is amazing, reminds me of "Between Us" a bit.

Tim F, Friday, 12 August 2011 11:13 (twelve years ago) link

why does that hannah liston song not exist outside this mix, i need it in my life

lex pretend, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 08:08 (twelve years ago) link

It's actually a vocal version of their remix of Hard House Banton's "Reign". AFAIK it's the first time the vocal version has ever been played.

Tim F, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 08:19 (twelve years ago) link

i hate searching for funky tracks and ILX THREADS being the only places they've been mentioned.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 08:29 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, they should make like a profession where dudes write about music in mass media publications or something

r|t|c, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 08:48 (twelve years ago) link

I think lex is saying we're just too on point.

Champion - Sweet As You Like (Feat. Tasha)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Big co-sign on this. And yeah the mix generally is obv full of goodness.
Tim I'm glad you're feeling the Matt IQ release, wasn't sure if it would be your kind of thing. Shake & Brick Lane are big personal faves right now.
Q for rtc/Tim - do you know if Eastwood's remake of Dirty Cash ever came out in any form? Would love to get my hands on that.

Mr Andy M, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 13:40 (twelve years ago) link

not to my knowledge. matter of fact has eastwood ever released anything by himself besides that freebie ep this year? (ie not counting remixes, the 5 star collabo ep, or that time he hadnt got the hang of the soundcloud "no download" option heh heh.)

r|t|c, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 14:13 (twelve years ago) link

hey andy i don't suppose you can tell me anything about mista bee? loving 'even though' and 'feel it' off recent smoove kriminal shows, i know marcus has played the latter too (murky riddim with sulty "want it, come take it, desire" vox). idk if he's new or been around on the frignes for ages or if i've been confusing him with mellow bee or what.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 14:27 (twelve years ago) link

IIRC Mista Bee is a club promoter in London who also makes tunes. I've been hearing productions from him for at least a couple of years now, but they tend to get played by the Deja guys (SK, Weeksey, LR Groove etc) more than anywhere else and I don't think many have been released. Amazon's Night from a while back is prob his best known (or at least the one I always recognise), it came out on MOS's Sound of UK Funky comp:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UxKuWWFU0s
Quite a lot of his tunes have a similar slightly dark sound to them I guess, not sure I know the two you mention though, will track em down.

That's a bummer about the Eastwood track, yeah he's not much one for releases either. Toilet Blocker is supposed to be coming on the We R Bass ep which is another collaborative thing, don't know when it's due for though. I suppose Dirty Cash could only end up being a free download anyway what with licensing considerations and all that.

Mr Andy M, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

oh right, what else is meant to be on that ep? i see 'bass slave' as well by the looks of it...

here's a clip of 'feel it'

r|t|c, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 15:53 (twelve years ago) link

also got 'toilet blocker' in 320 here if you want

r|t|c, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 15:58 (twelve years ago) link

oh right, what else is meant to be on that ep? i see 'bass slave' as well by the looks of it...
Hazard by Jook 10 (one of his best tunes imo) is supposed to be on there and I think 1 or 2 others but dunno what they are/who they're by yet. Cheers for the links/clips, that Whitecoat/Jae Elle remix is ace.

Mr Andy M, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 16:18 (twelve years ago) link

xpost yes plz

just sayin, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 17:02 (twelve years ago) link

Didn't Mista Bee do that great dark remix of Crazy Cousinz' "Searching For You"?

Mellow Bee is more recent and tribal-ish I think.

found these listed on an old pioneer show from a month back, anyone heard them perchance? according to mighty moe on wednesday's marcus show 'go loco' is a funkystepz production

Why oh why did I only get around to listening to Fuzzy Logic's mix on the Kiss Presents show now? Top notch, having serious faith-restoring effects on me after going through an up-and-down phase with things. Loving the synth-funk vibes on some of these tunes. Rest of the show looks to be fun too.

Mr Andy M, Thursday, 1 September 2011 12:16 (twelve years ago) link

twiss is always going to be classic but fuzzy's mix is just o-k imo. he weighty j and coldsteps one is the one though. some amazing tracks on there. made me a convert again.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Thursday, 1 September 2011 13:07 (twelve years ago) link

nobody has an mp3 of the fuzzy show do they? i go back to that page every few days and the radio streamer gadget never works for me. the samples of 'all my love' sound gr8!

this new ep from 86 baby (murdz from devine i think?) is great on first listen, i love the line he toes between galloping synth drama and (er, cringe) live-sounding timbres. much less glossy and even songy than say ill blu, but there's a cool under-the-surface hypnotic effect that he gets from hardly ever throwing any major new hooks in but continuously changing around the elements that are there. like there always seems to be something new simmering in between the cracks of everything else. (dunno how far this really holds - i mean the new percussion halfway through 'rhythm & funk' is just madness)

At this stage I frequently get confused as to which tunes I've posted about on dissensus and which I've covered here. Anyway, this one caught my attention recently:
http://www.junodownload.com/products/air/1823941-02/
Reckon it's the sort of thing that should appeal to the regulars on this thread - i.e. groovy vocal tune that's ear-catching and slightly freakish in a not overly self-conscious way. In other words I rate.
Def hyped this one over on the other side, but don't think I've mentioned it for a why even though it's been out for a while:
http://www.junodownload.com/products/into-you/1763628-02/
Remixes are decent but it's the og mix that's the one for me, one of my tunes of the year at this stage. IIRC Greenmoney have had quite a mixed reception on here but this one's a bit different from a lot of their tunes, less boshy but still rude/sharp.
Also Razzlerman is growing on me as a producer, after finding his work a little underwhelming to start with:
http://soundcloud.com/razzlerman/tracks
Think he's finally due to have a first public release out next month.

Mr Andy M, Friday, 16 September 2011 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

not that funkystepz need more highlighting here, but their mix shifts the big hulking tank of the og 'into you' into this exquisite ballerina trailing ribbon and streamers - i've put that mix on nearly every cd i've burned this summer, so so good

lucas pine, Saturday, 17 September 2011 20:39 (twelve years ago) link

lol that they did a weeknd remix

Joining the dots, LR Groove and Eastwood's shows on DejaVu have def been among my favorite radio sets so far this year. Can post up some links in a bit. Overall I'd have to say UKF radio hasn't been as good this year as last, which is a real shame.
