I don't understand all this lynching. I'm poor and as a kid I used to spend 90% of my money as a kid on overpriced CDs until the Internet came along. Fuck record stores. Have to admit that I'm not really that much into his music but I have read a couple of interviews and he seems earnest a bit manic (?) confused but passionate all of which I find interesting and can totally relate to unless this is another elaborate joke, in which case well I don't know what to say other than he's very good at it. The guest list was fun to read, too bad he had to back off because of this ridiculous hysteria. Hated the Odd Future comment.

Imo getting mad at this dude is like when ppl get mad at some artist for being rockist, it's like, "man, imagine if he was an ilx poster!!" And he does seem like an overly academic cornball. But everyone here listens to artists who espouse considerably worse worldviews on a regular basis. This guy is just an "lol first world problems" type easy target

REVIEWS OF 'SONGS' (2006) It took this Ariel Pink cohort five years to write and record his debut album, and only five minutes to become more annoying than Ariel Pink. - CMJ For me, this is just too weird. The first couple of tracks make this the most skip-able album of 2006. -Subba CultchaApparently, Maus spent five years working on this album, which is a shame because, frankly, its awful. -Vice There isn't one song you could call 'good' on the whole album. -Music ZineOverall, I can't recommend this album even as a novelty listen. Maybe I just don't get it. It seems as if Maus sabotages practically any hint of an interesting melody, lyric, or instrumental part with a blatantly grating one at almost every turn. -Indie WorkshpMaus's baroquely deadpan voice - and thats being polite - effectively spoils many a song. Some will hear a little Nick Cave in it; others will hear a man crapping out of his mouth. -Drowned in SoundIf it is supposed to be funny, it is not.
