“Get Free” – This is a record I did a long time ago maybe in 2005 but I’ve always loved the song and wanted people to hear it, but I had been holding it for so long for my album. Things change and my perspective has changed, it’s not that it’s changed, but more that I’ve grown. So I just wanted to let that go because that’s not an emotion that I hold onto anymore.

what was the awesome solo single she had out over the summer that i heard on the radio exactly once?

nəverDirty (some dude), Thursday, 6 October 2011 22:35 (3 years ago) Permalink

"r u 4 real" was released as an official single on itunes the other week - on the black moses music label, which i'm guessing is her own?

i found something purporting to be the trina/teedra...in .ram format which, what even is that. it won't play on my laptop but if anyone wants to have a go at converting it, http://www.sendspace.com/file/nvy22u

the mixtape fell by the wayside for me somewhat tbh but prompted by ships it's sounding good now. teedz knows the dealio though:

Perfect? I don’t even know what that is, but I just really want it to stand out to me. That’s the hardest part, getting me on board like everything is good. "I almost didn’t put out Luxurious underGrind because I was like, ‘Ughhh, this is just not good enough,’ but I had to step away from it and go back and listen to it and say ‘No, no, this is good, let’s go!’ So that’s kind of how I have to do it sometimes, but I’m not trying to be perfect. I don’t think there is such a thing.

Um. So the Euro edition of Complex Simplicity had a Truth Hurts/Raphael Saadiq featuring remix of Be Your Girl that samples Juicy Fruit?

Was this something we all knew about except me?

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 01:26 (2 years ago) Permalink

yup, always loved that - feels like a quiet, understated triumph in contrast to the original's pleading neediness. the UK album also had this excellent song on it, if anyone's not heard it

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 06:04 (2 years ago) Permalink

Both of these tracks are news to me, but I'm always learning things from ILM.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 11:50 (2 years ago) Permalink

Both amazing obv.

http://www.discogs.com/Teedra-Moses-Youll-Never-Find-A-Better-Woman/release/1564893

along the lines of 'still your girl' there was also this exactly what you'd expect but still dece mix of 'you'll never find' interpolating 'everybody loves the sunshine'

kinda dressed itself as a bootleg but as tvt themselves put it out on the low i would suspect it's canon

this link to a mix it's in still works:

did not know that! is he credited for anything besides 'vocal arrangement' per wiki? seems like such a lost opportunity that he hasn't gone back and worked with teedra more since then

some dude, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 14:06 (2 years ago) Permalink

http://www.discogs.com/Teedra-Moses-Complex-Simplicity/release/3292414

not per discogs - do have the cd in a box somewhere but i doubt anything else is there to be found really

http://www.songwriteruniverse.com/ne-yo.htm

in this interview he says he met scott storch while working on it, and then came 'let me love you', then etc

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 14:21 (2 years ago) Permalink

I didn't know about Ne-Yo either!

More reasons to love Complex Simplicity.

Tim F, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:04 (2 years ago) Permalink

something i didnt know wot i only learned today: according to wiki ne-yo "...helped with the musical arrangement on the Teedra Moses debut Complex Simplicity."

cool huh

this is shaking me to my core

it's katy b.

TALiB KWELi SODMG (The Reverend), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:31 (2 years ago) Permalink

yah but stick 'caution' on tho

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:33 (2 years ago) Permalink

Thanks, Lex; checking it out right now.

And I think I've said this before, but I'm pretty sure Katy B is not a thing that exists in America.

Evan R, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:33 (2 years ago) Permalink

haha well katy's been going on about what a genius teedra is since forever! so i have had these thoughts. it's more apparent in the songwriting, you know that deceptively casual way of phrasing something then dropping a really startlingly poetic image in the middle of it, than the singing

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:33 (2 years ago) Permalink

I'm pretty sure Katy B is not a thing that exists in America.

it took a while but lots of US journalists started talking about her last year.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:34 (2 years ago) Permalink

I've heard "Lights On" on US radio.

oh wow so she has

ULTIMATE CULT HEROES
5. TEEDRA MOSES
Chosen by: Katy B
When I was about 15 my friend’s dad was always in touch with new soul records. He put his daughter onto Teedra Moses and we rinsed the life out of ‘Complex Simplicity’. She’s been out of the loop since her record label went bust, and has been writing for other artists and releasing mixtapes. But you know what? I want a new album, Teedra!

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

they're singing does seems similar though in that they both have a remarkable clarity in their voices

prolego, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

^ yes. it's also true what lex said about the songwriting but you can also hear little moments where the capabilities of their voices converge and theyre just alike

seems very obviously an album katy has been karaokeing since forever

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:45 (2 years ago) Permalink

Yeah but Katy B is a boring, middle of the road Noxzema girl pop singer, while Teedra Moses is, you know, interesting and talented

Evan R, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:46 (2 years ago) Permalink

do i have to break out snoop.gif for the second time today?

TALiB KWELi SODMG (The Reverend), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:47 (2 years ago) Permalink

yeah guess she can't push the envelope to its very bleeding edge like miguel does every single time huh

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:49 (2 years ago) Permalink

i was just about to type almost exactly that sentence except with grimes, though miguel works too

lex pretend, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:51 (2 years ago) Permalink

hahaha, ok, I'll back down from the Katy B bashing. I shouldn't try to troll too hard about an artist I clearly don't understand (and probably wasn't meant to understand) anyway.
