or i guess the menace i hear is more like the idk 'hostilitiy' of teasing/flirtatious banter

yeah, i guess i'm thinking more about the synths underneath, which seem kind of sinsister to me, at least in contrast to the banter. definitely a "losing it on the weekend" thing

that synth line is so good that it makes it all the goofy vocals and sensual grinding and insistent menace actually work. together. all at once.

yeah I'm enjoying it, the chapters are short so even the ones I thought I wouldn't be that interested in I can read 10 pages of no problem, ya know? at first looking at the list of DJs I thought it might be too uh British for me but actually the northern soul chapters and the Rampling, Ibiza, Hacienda stuff was interesting cause I haven't read about it 100 times like I have Kool Herc or whatever.

curious whether I will finish the whole thing though since now I'm down to the bitter end and the last few chapters are Oakenfold, Sasha, and Tiesto ...

yea there is always a point in those 'history of the dj' type books/features where it gets way too british and you're just sitting there wondering how it went to quickly from farley jackmaster funk to goldie or w/e
