lol i love the fact that one of those serious mature 90s madonna ballads was on the same album as a mudhoney song called "run shithead run"

six months pass...

The Avengers Assemble soundtrack, which comes out this week (yes, in 2012):

1. "Live to Rise" - Soundgarden
2. "I'm Alive" - Shinedown
3. "Dirt and Roses" - Rise Against
4. "Even If I Could" - Papa Roach
5. "Unbroken" - Black Veil Brides
6. "Breath" - Scott Weiland
7. "Comeback" - Redlight King
8. "Into the Blue" - Bush
9. "A New Way to Bleed (Photek Remix)" - Evanescence
10. "Count Me Out" - PUSHERJONES
11. "Shoot to Thrill" - Theory of a Deadman
12. "Wherever I Go" - Buckcherry
13. "From Out of Nowhere" - Five Finger Death Punch
14. "Shake the Ground" - Cherri Bomb

Sadly the Weiland track is not a cover of Pearl Jam's Singles contribution.

Search:

1. Burn performed by Cure - 6:39 :: not totally vital, but not too shabby either. I rank this alongside 'Never Enough' w/ their second tier, but still highly listenable, 90s pre-Wild Mood Swings singles.
3. Big Empty performed by Stone Temple Pilots - 4:56 :: I was never as big on this as some, but the chorus hook is objectively undeniable. iirc this is where they first revealed themselves as descent pop band, despite having been previously disguised as Candlebox or whatever.
4. Dead Souls performed by Nine Inch Nails - 4:54 :: this works just about as well as you'd expect, which is pretty OK. Trent's snarl works well w/ the chorus.
12. Snakedriver performed by Jesus & Mary Chain - 3:41 :: one of my all-time fave Mary Chain tracks tbh. This KILLED live, actually. I think one reason I like it so much is that I imagine it blasting out of massive amplifiers & engulfed by a swarm of feedback
13. Time Baby III performed by Medicine - 3:52 - don't listen to Ned. These guys were pretty good - I don't remember if the version here is the one produced by Robin Guthrie w/ Liz Fraser singing backup, but that is obv the version you want!

I honestly don't remember any other tracks b/c these ^ I knew from other records. Still even if it comes down to those five, it is seems reasonably salvageable for a standard 90s alternarock movie soundtrack.

"Burn" got some college airplay iirc; it sounded a bit like their "atmospheric" take on "Purple eHaze."

haha Stone Free: A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix may be more lol 90s than almost any soundtrack mentioned itt

lol was just typing this out: true, but Stone Free had nowhere near the drastically askew popularity/actualy listenability ratio as the Led Zep tribute album that was popular at around the same time.
