This almost made my list, really love this song but I already had five songs from Very in my list.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:06 (twelve years ago) link

So far, only 3 songs from my ballot.

daavid, I put Fugitive high on my ballot so you never know.

Only paid attention to Young offender after people were hyping it for the poll. Like it a lot.

oppet, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:14 (twelve years ago) link

Awesome. I voted for most of this batch. But... inexplicably, I'm not sure I've ever even heard "Flamboyant" before!!!

xpost: would never have guessed there was this much love for "I'm Not Scared" in any of its incarnations.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

I'm Not Scared my number 5, Young Offender my number 2.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

xxpost fingers crossed!

"I'm Not Scared" so far my favourite song on the list

daavid, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:16 (twelve years ago) link

Dan, look away now.

RIF: Their last US Top 40 single.

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:17 (twelve years ago) link

The version of "I'm Not Scared" on Introspective is majestic in the right way. Love the rising and falling sequencer line.

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:18 (twelve years ago) link

Lots of Introspective in the last few tracks. My favorite PSB album but I think I only voted for WEG and Domino Dancing.

skip, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link

omfg

it didn't make the top 20

really really really happy (because I knew it was going to show up; I was dreading a top 5 finish)

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't think DD would make it! Pleasantly surprised.

daavid, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link

Domino Dancing is my favourite PSB video.

daavid, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:21 (twelve years ago) link

I wanna BE in that video!

daavid, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:22 (twelve years ago) link

21. Suburbia. (1986, Please, 205 points, 9 votes, 0 number ones)

such pretty people

20. Se A Vida É (That's the Way Life Is) (1996, Bilingual, 215 points, 9 votes, 1 number one)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6dV59MEc_o

Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/track/3CDWeAFgNs5lUsPCySDSxK

RIF: The translation is incorrect and should be 'If Life Is'.

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:26 (twelve years ago) link

can I just say the Deep Dish Liquid remix of this is FANTASTIC

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exv_HdcnU6o

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:28 (twelve years ago) link

think I Want To Wake Up was my number one vote... TOO LOOOOW

I'm A Genius, Too! (Jamie_ATP), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:29 (twelve years ago) link

Domino Dancing RIF (#2): Title inspired by Chris being upset from losing at dominoes. Never thought of this before but the line "...or are you just a bad loser" is probably a reference to that.

daavid, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:30 (twelve years ago) link

19. Home And Dry. (2002, Release, 216 points, 10 votes, 0 number ones)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ossii9Ipiv4

Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/track/0ZlVW64JVzh7QXKAwfza1t

RIF: Chris's spoken "We're going home" near the end of the song is a conscious nod to Paul McCartney's matching spoken words at the end of the Beatles track "Two of Us."

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:32 (twelve years ago) link

3 mins into this deep dish rmx and...woah.

oppet, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:32 (twelve years ago) link

yeah! tbh this was the first version of "Se A Vida E" I heard and is what I always think of when I think of the song

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:34 (twelve years ago) link

At this point it seem very likely that all tracks on Introspective will chart.

daavid, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:35 (twelve years ago) link

Huh. Only three of my songs have placed so far. Seems to be the way with me and polls - my choices either make up most of the top 20 or don't appear at all.

18. Go West. (1993, Very, 223 points, 10 votes, 1 number one)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNBjMRvOB5M

Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/track/3kkwL9s48fjogUXKfbLgqx

RIF: This song is played whenever SSC Napoli win a home game.

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:38 (twelve years ago) link

Glad to see something from Bilingual show up. I never knew people rated "Se A Vida É". Was it it's inclusion on the last tour that helped it? (x-post)

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:39 (twelve years ago) link

Always loved it. Wasn't it their biggest Brit hit from the album?

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:40 (twelve years ago) link

Nice video too, filmed in Florida.

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:40 (twelve years ago) link

I rank Se A Vida E behind the first three songs on Bilingual but it's a solid track. Funny how closely the first few tracks on Bilingual mirror Nightlife, with #4 being a total dud.

skip, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:41 (twelve years ago) link

IIRC ppl have been all about "Se A Vida E" since it came out (that was why I originally sought it out, which lead me to that Deep Dish remix)

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:41 (twelve years ago) link

"Home and Dry" was one of only 3 21st century choices for me. One-phrase-repeated choruses always have the potential to annoy but this keeps on giving. Hadn't seen this video until this week though. Fabulousness.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:41 (twelve years ago) link

That's your lot for tonight. I'm up early tomorrow and need my beauty sleep. 17-1 tomorrow evening.

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:42 (twelve years ago) link

tbh I have never really "gotten" "Go West"

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:43 (twelve years ago) link

Se A Vida É is a lovely song and so much better than Before which is a contender for my least favourite single of theirs.

I really don't understand the appeal of Home & Dry, it's the first song in the list I'm pretty disappointed to see place.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:43 (twelve years ago) link

daavid, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:46 (twelve years ago) link

The miners' choir in that vid is breathtaking. xpost

scotstvo, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:46 (twelve years ago) link

I really like "Se A Vida É", but it would probably come 7th or 8th for me on Bilingual. (x-post)

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:47 (twelve years ago) link

New York City Boy is a far superior take on the Go West theme.

skip, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:50 (twelve years ago) link

^^^^ agreed!

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

"New York City Boy" got a fair amount of airplay here -- without checking I think it's their biggest American crossover hit since the early nineties -- but I know a lot of rong people who think it's rather tacky.

The Edge of Gloryhole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

That would be me. I find it a bit PSB-by-numbers and much less moving than Go West.

Strictly vote-splitting (DL), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

I don't understand that at all. There really isn't anything about "Go West" that doesn't make me roll my eyes to the point of sprain.

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:57 (twelve years ago) link

As someone in a (superficially) similar life situation as the video's main character when the track came out, I don't have a problem with the tacky obvious parts of New York City Boy. But it sure isn't the most subtle thing in the world. With Go West, the listener does get to fill in the blanks a little.

skip, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 21:57 (twelve years ago) link

(I hate the original too so it isn't totally PSB's fault)

DJP, Tuesday, 5 July 2011 22:00 (twelve years ago) link

You have to at least give them credit for taking a genuinely joyful and optimistic track and turning into something rather mournful without actually changing much.
