i figure maybe there's someone here who just woke up from a coma or something... me and a guy i make music with were commissioned to do this mix by a fashion label that his girlfriend works at. the guy who was in charge of the project has pretty cheesey taste. he said he wanted 80s/rock song w/ hip hop acapellas type thing. we had decided not to use our names because it's not representative of what we usually do, but it ended up being "ok"... for what it is.
18 songs in 28 minutes.

queen - we will rock you
snoop - drop it like it's hot (acapella)
joan jett - i love rock n roll
billy squier - stroke
tears for fears - shout (acapella)
busta rhymes - ass on fire
ac/dc - back in black
kelis - milkshake (acapella)
m.i.a. - galang (dj cocoe lovecats remix)
o.d.b. - i got your money (acapella)
the cure - lovecats
lcd soundsystem - on repeat
tori alamaze - don cha (acapella)
michael jackson - billie jean (acapella)
daft punk - face to face
white stripes - 7 nation army
tom vek - i ain't sayin my goodbyes
pink floyd - bring the boys back home

currently enjoying ronan and firstworldman's mixes, as well as tylero's excellent techno mix. these are all wicked!

Vintage Latin (dog latin), Friday, 17 February 2006 12:51 (eighteen years ago) link

I want to hear more of this music coming from a post-apocolyptic swamp setting. is there a label/geographic area that specifically concentrates on this sound? i always like the dark steely stuff, but so much of that is dark blue/dark black feel, and i like this dark green alot more...atleast righ tnow.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 23 February 2006 01:23 (eighteen years ago) link

thx - i'll check that out. i hope its super murky and bio and like the canvas of old military vehicles rotting in the sun and that orange plasticky stuff they wrap around the base of basketball hoops at highschool gyms and locusts. i really like jena paradies' mixes (esp. the Natur one) for this...seems there's alot of that flavor in there. really appeals to my Virginia roots, i guess. thx!

Does anybody record their mixes straight onto a portable media player device type thing? I gave the computer I had in my dj room to a friend, and now have no way to record. I was going to buy a laptop but I'm kind of over it, and am thinking of joining the modern world and getting a little mp3 player thing instead. Is there a super bitchin special kine one that has good line-in recording? I'm kind of jonesing to record mixes again here.

DougD (DougD), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 19:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I already know about setting warp markers and the like. What I am struggling with is how you cue up songs, manage the mix progression and keep everything sorted out. And is the crossfader worth bothering with?

Lukas (lukas), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 00:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Sorry, but was there ever a tracklist made for that geminimix that Phillip Sherburne did back however long ago that was. And if not, if anyone could identify the 2nd track on it that would be of enormous help.

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 02:51 (eighteen years ago) link

tylero - you asked a question about that 'stick up kid' track way back like a month ago. just now saw it. yes, that's Jess & Crabbe - The Hell & Back (on Fiat Lux).
if you (or anyone else) wants more of my mixes, hit me up on slsk and look in the 'txjaxx' folder. they are all older mixes, but still good imo.
