Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

Can I suggest that the polls are mixed up so that the subsequent act is in a totally different style/genre to the one before it.

e.g. Manics - PSB - (Zepellin?) - Beach Boys - Electronic act - Twee indie nonsense - token hip hop act

I think we need to create an Excel spreadsheet matrix

I was going to wait until the polling closed in the Manic's thread, 22nd iirc and then start the PSB poll. The Manics reveal can go on while the PSB votes come in.

for the most part the dan aren't one of those 'treasure trove of unreleased stuff' bands. they have those early demos which aren't super interesting and then the gaucho stuff which is great but that's about it.

to me the interesting part of these threads isn't so much the 'which rarity might sneak in' as much as the enthusiastic discussion and dissection of 'why' these tracks are the best.

I like the uniformity in titling idea. Easier to search for in the future.

Any chance we could move either the Beatles or the Beach Boys back a bit? It's getting so canonical white dudes that there'll be minimal interest in doing anything else after we've trawled through everyone in Q magazine.

Well, everyone else has backed off, timewise.

There's the Manics one up at the mo, the Pavement one just finished, the MC Tunes is taking it's time, just like his second album, so the pace is fairly leisurely.

I hesitate to suggest, but the Beach Boys' "Smile" is coming out fairly soon (the single is out already), so...

(hopefully) BIG 50s decade trax poll coming sometime in July as well. Would hate for it to face one of these head to head, so I'll figure out what week that will roll out and let whomever is coordinating these know so a gap in the flow can be predetermined.

I mean, yeah I'd love someone to do a James Brown one, but do we collectively have the required knowledge to vote? I mean, I have the "Star Time" box which is pretty nice and all encompassing as these things go, but is that enough?

There are shitloads of James Brown fans on ILM, surely?

If we want to make it a little less white then a labels poll such as Motown, Stax or Trojan or a genre poll such as disco (1975-80) or Northern Soul would fit in. I think a Wu-Tang and its members poll would be good too.

yeah...Classic Rock definitely won't get rolling until after the year-end poll is done in January, unless i decide to run a nominations/discussion thread for a bit before the official voting thread. didn't wanna overlap with that or the disco poll (plus I just ran two polls over the summer, so i'm not in a rush). don't care if the Roxy Music poll cuts in line ahead of me -- I feel like the big genre-spanning polls need longer windows for voting and everything else so it'll be a slow process.

I'll do a Byrds and offshoots poll which includes Gene Clark, Gram Parsons, David Crosby, Roger McGuinn and the rest

Actually, I'd like to do a "Covers" poll. All cover versions of previously recorded songs. That could be fun.

I'm gonna keep my place in line for Stiff Records, but I may change the topic at some point. Not sure it would be much of a draw after Stax only got 20-something ballots.

Giving up Classic Rock may prove my greatest regret as an ilxor, I have great feelings about that poll. But SD will def do a better job (my track record on these things is pretty iffy). Hopefully I can get it together by the time of the grand Billy Joel Poel.
