All indie rock sucks. Open your minds to the genius of Meredith and Dave Matthews. I wish they would collaborate. She should produce the next DMB.
Killing Joke? arent they the dodgy 80s goth band? hahahhaa.

''arent they the dodgy 80s goth band?''

hehehe...I demand Alex in NYC posts to this thread!

''Open your minds to the genius of Meredith and Dave Matthews.''

TROLL!

TROLL! ?
Am i not entitled to an opinion? I got a link to this board from a friend on a DMB message board. As far as i know i dont exist in fairy tale form under a bridge.
Dave & Meredith rock in my opinion. Who cares if you dont agree with me. Just respect the fact i have an opinion. No need to call me names. (FYI i know what a troll is innetspeak)
bye.

"Killing Joke? arent they the dodgy 80s goth band? hahahhaa."

I'm way too tired, achey and hungover to respond to this properly, but surely the opinions of a zealous DMB fan are moot anyway, right?

In any case, FUCK YOU, you squirming, corpse-felching MAGGOT!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 23 February 2003 17:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

''TROLL! ?''

I was only joking (and this is a 'joke' around these boards).

actually I should have just asked: why do u think DMB is way better than say, ''all indie rock''?

alex in NYC's ans is very pretty.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

I can't believe Mrs Sinker didn't come on. I don't think my explanation was particularly good or insightful. But it was an attempt.

Cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 23 February 2003 21:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

This thread is silly. DMB have the bacon-ey stench of Canada all over them! (despite being Americans, I think)

"Hey, just cause I like DMB doesn't mean I don't like TOOL, Van Halen, Rush , Norah Jones, and Stevie Wonder"...do you like ANYthing good? Do you like ANYthing not on a major label? You're probably not a dupe, naga pampa...but I think you're being duped!

matt riedl (veal), Monday, 24 February 2003 22:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

Just because its on a major label doesnt mean it sucks. No need to be so rude to Naga Pampa or other DMB fans(although they were rude to indie rock and pop fans)But naga pampa hasnt been nasty to anyone.
Theyre all entitled to like what they like.
Im sure they will agree as much as ILMers that Norah Jones sucks for instance. Or Avril Lavigne.
Gimme DMB over Avril Lavigne or Kelly osbourne any day. Its not good pop at all.

Blinky, Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

Waitasec. I'm feeling deja vu.
I distinctly remember a couple years back, somebody started a thread about the Killing Joke. And it was flamed by hordes of Killing Joke Fans, the most vocal of which was a new guy calling himself Alex in NYC.
End Result: Alex in NYC stuck around and became the most Active Poster in the History of ILM, evah

flash foward to the present day....

somebody started a thread about the Dave Matthews Band. And it was flamed by hordes of DMB Fans...I fear that sometimes soon an "Alex in NYC"-esque DMB fan will begin posting early and often every day, until he becomes the Most Active Poster. And he will post photos of DMB in every thread...and the DMB Fan will demand that we all "Honour the..." (whatever it DMB fans honour) and the world will become a much darker and more horrid place.

(Note to the real Alex in NYC: I'm not busting your nut, I'd *genuinely prefer* a KJ fan over a DMB fan for the post of "most fanatical ILM poster.)

those are incorrect generalizations of "ILMers".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

I don't think I was being rude at all. Let him fight his own battles, if there's even a "battle" here. Every artist he named is on a major, and, I believe, they were ALWAYS on majors. A lot of people don't even realize they're being force-fed until they spit out that last nasty mouthful. Naga Pampa, no offense meant, but I'll stand by my thoughts on the subject.

matt riedl (veal), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:28 (twenty-one years ago) link

matt - most of these dmb-types self-released stuff (and sold plenty) long before they signed to a major. John Mayer was packing theaters well before he went major, as did Dave Matthews, as did Hootie

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:33 (twenty-one years ago) link

With all due respect, I'm not a DMB fan, but they are far better than Hootie.

Stuart (Stuart), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:50 (twenty-one years ago) link

ahem....
DMB will continue to blow until...
A-DM dies from the coke he seems to love.
B-the other 83% of the US of A come out of it and get all the DMB fans together for a nice little "picnic in the ocean"
C-the other members of DMB realize that the cash cow is poison, and stage a coup. outting DM for being, in all actuallity, Jon Denver in disguise!!! the remaining DMB fans who do not kill themselves out of dismay or graduate from college and move on to higher musical tastes, will convert to Est, and rejoice in a massive rendition of "Rocky Mountian Train" followed by an all vocal rendition of "the white album".
phish fans will contemptously twirl.

edde, Wednesday, 26 February 2003 21:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

DMB are awful Anyone who likes a band just because theyre amazing at their instruments are sad shallow people. Thats a LOT of DMB/Phish/Jam Bands/Metal fans.

As for majors vs indie. Its irrelevant these days. It depends on what sort of deal they get. Space were on an 'indie' and got shafted didnt they? Im sure theres many other incidents. Indie labels are as likely to be run by greedy bastards as a major.(with some exceptions obviously)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 28 February 2003 19:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

OK, I'll bite. I am a dmb fan. I love their music, the lyrics, the musicanship, the fact that they are, despite what many of you have said, different from most of the music that is out there today. Different from Mayer, Hootie, Phish and all the other bands and musicians they get lumped together with (I'm not saying these other bands are bad, just different). It iritates me when poeople judge DMB when they have only heard a few of their songs (Crash Into Me, The Space Between, Where Are You Going). I wish people would listen to more of the music before forming an opion of the band. There is so much more music then what is on the radio. Listen to a song like Halloween or The Last Stop for example, and you will find it completely different from Crash or The Space Between. Throughout my time as a fan I have experienced prejudices because I happen to love this band. I have never really understood the hatread of this band and their fans. Despite what people think all DMB fans are not Frat-boys, jocks, hippies and pot-heads. I am not one of those things. Don't hate someone because you don't happen to enjoy the same tyopes of music, that's like hating soomeone because of their religion or the social status. It's stupid to lump all fans of one band into a catagory and decide that because they like this band you will hate them all. That being said, I would recomend that those of you that have only heard DMB's singles listen to a few of their other songs and then make you decisions. A few of my favs are: Two Step, Jimi Thing, Halloween, Last Stop, Warehouse, #41, #36. Then if you still don't like the music, that's fine, despite what people think DMB fans aren't like Jehova's Witnesses (I think I spelled that wrong), we aren't a cult, and most of us don't really care whether you like the music or not. Have a great day!

sarah4136, Friday, 28 February 2003 21:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

There is so much more music then what is on the radio.

Yup.

DMB fans aren't like Jehova's Witnesses

I like the idea of fans of any band riding around on bikes like the Mormons, winning people over via house to house visits.

To be fair, Sarah, you're quite correct in general. You like them and that's what matters, and you shouldn't care what anyone else thinks. But like it or not, other people will have their opinions on the matter and will disagree with you on them if that's what they feel. That's the way things work. From where you're standing, those others are not 'right,' but they're not wrong either.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 February 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

But Sarah, I've heard the first two albums. I really wanted to like them. I never did, outside of a few of the radio songs that you feel are their lesser work. It's not like I didn't try to get into them!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 28 February 2003 21:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

i happen to love the dmb and will travel almost anywhere in the united states to see them. that is a lot of traveling as our country is much much larger than yours (unless you are in china, russia, or india) and they play in front of a full house every night so who cares what you europeans think. if you were to give them a try with an open mind then you might just like them. do not just dislike them because it is the cool thing to do on this board. and not everybody agrees with dave on everything he does because we should LIBERATE IRAQ

craig johnson, Friday, 28 February 2003 21:36 (twenty-one years ago) link

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 28 February 2003 21:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 28 February 2003 21:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

does Craig realise that almost all the DMB hate is coming from his fellow countrymen, as most Europeons don't know and could give a fuck who Dave Matthews is?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 28 February 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

How about we listen to somebody with some credibility on this issue. Would you all agree that U2 is a fairly decent band? Would you believe Bono is fairly talented?? Well this have bono speak about this issue

"The first time I heard him(Dave) I thought he was a black jazz artist. The song I heard (crush) from him and his bandmates was
amazing and had a distinct soulful feel to it, the feel that you don't hear much at all today from bands. Their drummer(carter) has God like drumming skills, amazing live band their just lit from beginning to end.I just got around to picking up their new one Busted Stuff, fucking mindblowing music.
All the musicans bring somthing to the table so your always full ya know? They literally have created their own genre of music and that right there is quite a thrill mate."- Bono ,Showbiz Iraland Maginzine 3-2-03

Is this why we hate dmb?? yah dmb..they suck..riiiiiiiight

Mark, Saturday, 1 March 2003 06:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

oh let me guess..u2 is a terrible band also and bono sucks. i would say its safe to say that u2 is one of the most established and celebrated rock bands in rock history..count the number of awards..count the number of years they have been together..etc..etc..etc...dont argue for the sake of argument you all are just digging yourselves into a deeper ditch..please be reminded i have not said one bad thing about linkin park.

mark, Saturday, 1 March 2003 16:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

who cares what bono thinks..obviously not you..it just brought some credibility to this topic..do you know what credibility is??? its something you try to use when you argue with people ..get it??

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 1 March 2003 17:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

dmb will only be defended by dmb fans, not casual listeners...
by bringing U2 into the topic, the depths are now being plumbed...
BTW-yeah, u2 is now among the shit bands. i don't need another Paul Simon or Billy Joel, fuck you very much.
racist?? why? because someone said "black"??? is that racist?
if so, geez, take yr pills...

Julio - why d'you keep clicking on this link, it's obv. you don't like DMB, and you almost know what the unread posts are going to say, yet still you come in, pop a more-than-a-little-smug dismissal at The Googler, then scurry off. C'mon d00d. Bring the love. Imbibe the vibe ((c) Ronan, 2001).
