This has actually been one of my favourite ILM polls ever. At some point in the early 2000s, I lost almost all of my residual ability to connect with hip hop (having followed it very closely from 1985 to 1989 in particular), and so this is providing an ideal re-entry point. I've been streaming every track in full, and there's been a wealth of goodness to discover, or to re-acquaint myself with.

was thinking about the lack of Too $hort and figure it must be down to vote splitting. He doesn't really have an automatic canonical track apart from maybe Freaky Tales... but um, I voted for "Don't Fight the Feeling" in my top 10 iirc

xpost: I nearly didn't vote. Then I thought: no, if it falls to me to REPRESENT for the OLD SCHOOL, so be it, etc etc. So there was almost nothing in my ballot after 1993. I decided not to let this bother me.

(Still managed to underrate The Bridge Is Over and Strictly Business, though. Voted for both, but they should have been much higher in retrospect.)
