Isn't the problem with Rapture, not that it doesn't contain rapping but the exact opposite - that it contains the worst rapping ever committed to tape?
Top Five prediction (unranked): The Message - Tunes Splits The Atom - C.R.E.A.M. - T.R.O.Y. - Regulate - The Only Rhyme That Bites

Six sorry.

he'll have 2 songs in the top 25, but not those 2. noone in their right mind like "Who Am I?" more than "Gin & Juice" or "G Thang."
I didn't mention "G Thang" because it's a Dr. Dre song, not Snoop song. Obviously that one'll be in the top 20 too. Not sure about "Gin & Juice" though... In Finland at least, "Who am I?" was clearly the biggest hit from Doggystyle, and it's the tune from his debut that still gets played the most. Maybe it's different in the US, though?
― Tuomas, Friday, 10 June 2011 11:24 (twelve years ago) link
What the heck are your second and sixth predictions, I've never even heard of those?
― Tuomas, Friday, 10 June 2011 11:26 (twelve years ago) link
yeah Doggystyle singles are definitely perceived differently in the US than in Finland

xxp MC Tunes, no-mark Mancunian baggy MC who rapped (badly) over samples of Stone Roses and 808 State records- I think Doran is, in the vernacular, "having a laugh".

this makes me really fearful of "a milli" placing though
― some dude, Friday, 10 June 2011 11:45 (twelve years ago) link
Is that the highest Outkast then? Wouldn't rule out Ms Jackson appearing but probably not with Bombs Over Baghdad so low.
― Matt DC, Friday, 10 June 2011 11:46 (twelve years ago) link
Doran should be happy we at least got a song where a rapper refers to his "bum"
― some dude, Friday, 10 June 2011 11:48 (twelve years ago) link
Wouldn't it be fun if "Hey Ya" placed? Then we could have a really great argument about what's hip hop and what's not.
― Tuomas, Friday, 10 June 2011 11:48 (twelve years ago) link
Sorry Tuomas. It's wishful thinking. My actual prediction is The Message - Bring Forth The Guillotine - T.R.O.Y. - C.R.E.A.M. - 20 Seconds To Comply - Regulate

Mind Playing Tricks on Me will probably be top 5 Doran
― brodie_odie_dope (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 10 June 2011 12:09 (twelve years ago) link
And I still feel the remorse coursing through my veins. If one had to get in touch with Bushwick Bill, Scarface and ?Willie D, how do you reckon one would?
― PG Harpy (Doran), Friday, 10 June 2011 12:15 (twelve years ago) link
gotcha covered Doran, gave Mind Playing Tricks on Me lots of points; to my shame the only reason I heard & voted for it was bcz of this:

hell yeah IPA! my #1 - not for any logical reason, mind. it just makes me inexplicably joyful. and even tho the lyrics are often garden-variety pimp & ho bs, the flow is so tight on each verse w/ each MC that the subject matter is basically moot anyway imo.
― buhlogna mindstate (Pillbox), Friday, 10 June 2011 14:58 (twelve years ago) link
you know, I think the Outkast track I underrate the most is "ATLiens"
like, it never comes to mind when I think of Outkast tracks I love, but whenever I hear it's the greatest song ever
― low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Friday, 10 June 2011 15:07 (twelve years ago) link
ATLiens is great; I remember the massive gangsta rap fan I sat next to in HS band not liking Outkast bcz the "fish and grits" line in the chorus & "Ain't no thang but a chicken wang" but I never quite got that
if Rosa Parks makes it, then I'm gonna feel sorry for not nominating "Return of the G"

This has actually been one of my favourite ILM polls ever. At some point in the early 2000s, I lost almost all of my residual ability to connect with hip hop (having followed it very closely from 1985 to 1989 in particular), and so this is providing an ideal re-entry point. I've been streaming every track in full, and there's been a wealth of goodness to discover, or to re-acquaint myself with.
