I must live in a cave, because I recognize the name Juvenile but this thread was the first time I ever heard a track of his. SUE ME.

re: Juve
Yah that song (Ha) made no sense to me in high school, took me a few months to come around to it.
Back That Azz Up is still my favorite club track.
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

I guess this means 100 Miles And Runnin isn't going to place.
― PG Harpy (Doran), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:57 (twelve years ago) link
I didn't know what to do with BOB - like, it's amazing but the rapping is totally incidental to its greatness, and I don't even think of it as a rap track so much as ... I don't know what really. I ended up putting it quite high in the end about #13 or so, it was the highest thing that I wasn't juggling as a potential #1.
― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:57 (twelve years ago) link
rapping is not really incidental on BOB

yeah the rapping on bob is sooooooo important. don't think it could have worked with 2 different mcs
― WHO THE FUCK READS THE (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:59 (twelve years ago) link
I know! It's full of it. It's full of other stuff too though, it kind of transcends genre for me so didn't sit easy for me in a genre poll.
― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 18:59 (twelve years ago) link
lol yeah a guitar! it can't be in a hiphop poll!

Is Kanye's line about hating paparazzi worse than the Nazis the worst lyric in the poll so far? Love the music on that song but his MCing is even slacker than I remember it.
Never heard Ha but it's great - weirder than I expected Juvenile to be.
xp I think it's fair to say that BOB seems to transcend genre, just like Get Ur Freak On.

― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 19:07 (twelve years ago) link
Don't know why they cut the Lou Reed sample out of the single version (probz some backroom business), but that's what really makes the track.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 19:09 (twelve years ago) link
I spent all weekend listening to People's... such a dope dope DOPE album

My number 2.
Bare bones (dusty drum, simple bass line) beat with pure complex lyricism. So great.
