WHO THE FUCK READS THE (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:04 (twelve years ago) link

I feel like this list is gonna be too random to care about placement. Unless some complete nonsense cracks the top 25 or something.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:04 (twelve years ago) link

That like my 20th favorite Bone Thugs track, but I get it.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:05 (twelve years ago) link

never liked Bone Thugs myself

Yay, for "I Wish", one of the best one-hit-wonder hits of all time. It was my #26; I remember around the time it was a hit, I shaved my head bald for the first time, and some friends of mine I thought I looked like Skee-Lo, so they started calling me that. That tune is so solidly intertwined with a particular era in my life that I could just not have left it off my ballot, even if it wasn't as dope as it is.

bone thugz used to rule "the box" channel

re Bone: no love for Mo Murda/1st of the Month/Fo The Love Of $/Creepin on a Come Up/Notorious Thugs/Shoot Em Up?

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:16 (twelve years ago) link

"Tha Crossroads" was my #1, fuck anyone who thinks it isn't good! The reasons I put it on the top spot:

* Again, it was a big part of my youth.

* Combining sweet doo-wop vocals with gangsta rap was a brilliant idea, and this was the first time I (and millions of others) heard BTnH do it, so back then it felt like such a revelation.

* Despite the seemingly positive afterlife imagery in the video, the song is all about being afraid of death; the sentiment is expressed in such a straightforward and timeless way that it's almost impossible to ignore. "I miss my uncle Charles, he shouldn't be gone in front of his home..." - who of us couldn't empathize with that? I wasn't religious when the song came out and I'm still not, but the simple, insistent repetition of "and we pray and we pray and we pray" in it always pulls my heart strings: it tells so much about the uncertainties death brings to our lives and how we try to deal with it every day.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:19 (twelve years ago) link

1st of the Month is the only one of those I recall off the top of my head... yeah I dunno they just never clicked with me. I dunno, it's funny - probably has something to do with young me being super-serious about my chosen allegiances in the aftermath of NWA (ie, Cube over everybody else), I let a bunch of stuff associated with Dre, Eazy, etc. just pass me by

xp

S'cool bro, I only cried a little (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:20 (twelve years ago) link

Bone is one of those that peaked w/ their first single imo, tho 1st of tha Month comes close

buhlogna mindstate (Pillbox), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

""Tha Crossroads" was my #1, fuck anyone who thinks it isn't good!"

I like it too, one of the first rap videos I really got hooked into. I just don't have the affection for it I used to, and other BTNH tracks have hurdled it over the years. Like, I still listen to Bone but haven't listened to that track in probably 8-10 years. Cant front on your reasoning tho.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:24 (twelve years ago) link

"probably has something to do with young me being super-serious about my chosen allegiances in the aftermath of NWA "

haha yah, totally, when I was young and the east/west nonsense was going down, I would always say stuff like "the east sucks man" without any reasoning. I could never EVER get down with Mobb Deep cos they had beef w Pac. Soooo dumb.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

Did you vote for No Vaseline Shakey or have you put all that beef behind you?

We need to talk about Bevan (DL), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

Bone Thugs have some stellar album cuts imo.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 17:29 (twelve years ago) link

I like "Thug Love" more than "Tha Crossroads" but I don't expect anyone else to agree with me

lol given how shitty Cube got and how much better Dre got (and how dead Eazy-E got lol) it's all water under the bridge at this point

if there were a poll of 100 All Time Greatest Dis Tracks tho, No Vaseline would be my #1
