given 'feel nice, feel right' catching on here this one probably bears much reiterating - AWESOME quentinesque crushing epicness ahoy

second hour is a snore alas (though a well-executed one if ur into it). i don't wanna say 20th april was a fluke cos the tracks are still everywhere you look; it's that the tapping into the right mystic state of consciousness is proving harder and harder for deejays as economies (of perception as well as commerce) reify.

Marcus ladymix is excellent - although the Adele remix is a bit ropey that's largely because that song just rhythmically goes against the grain of funky. Somewhat annoyingly the tune I like best is the unidentified one with the harmonies after 'Nobody' and the mix gets really good after that point.
On paper that Paul Woolford mix of T. Williams feels it should be the wrong kind of ravey but context it's weirdly refreshing, like suddenly being doused with squelchy noises.

^^ new natalie may (never cared that much about 'sexy sexy' tbh). the ravey synths remind me of something like 'feel nice, feel right' (recent uk funky tracks considered, at least).

actually ropey is being nice. some of it is just bad lol. but its funny at least.

For anyone interested that missed this, DJ Naughty doing a guest mix (last 30-odd minutes) for Brackles on Rinse:http://podcast.dgen.net/rinsefm/podcast/Brackles300611.mp3Fairly impressed by this. rtc I think I remember you saying that with the way the scene was heading in general, Naughty's tunes might no longer mix well with everything else out there. I can def see that with some of his productions on this, and also I guess the slightly trancey synths on some of his tunes might not be up everyone's street (on paper they're not really up mine). But hearing his style of tunes back to back like this is quite seductive for me, he seems like a producer that's full of ideas and that really communicates when you're listening.[End rambling]

Woah that Champion remix is good. Has to be the best remix he's done since his version of Bad Girl, right?
― Mr Andy M, Tuesday, 12 July 2011 12:41 (twelve years ago) link
that ruby lee track is good - its like typical champion but more melodic which youd think would take away from his style but it actually brings out something better in his production.

it is but that makes it sound like the others have disappointed! his mix of encore's 'the one' is one of my most cherished things this year, really bizarre upper/downer confection of dazed elation and sugary boyband singing about suicide
mclean 'finally in love' mix a classic in my book too, still don't know why ppl didnt go crazy over that

Funkystepz – Expensive – CDRRedlight ft MC Versitile – Lets Go Mental – CDRRamzee ft Might Moe – Go Loco
found these listed on an old pioneer show from a month back, anyone heard them perchance? according to mighty moe on wednesday's marcus show 'go loco' is a funkystepz production

Yeah I hear what you're saying. The One remix is quite freakish really, def an odd mixture of moods on it. Finally In Love remix got used on a few mixtapes iirc, but didn't get much radio play for some reason, though I think Pioneer played it a bit. Will try and track down those new tunes you mentioned - think I've heard Expensive before but can't remember anything about how it sounds (them useful posts there, lol).

Marcus Nasty birthday set (13 July) sounding excellent so far. The track at 70 min = my life has been irrevocably altered forever.

not gonna lie i heard this set this week and thought nothing of it! let's have another butchers
― r|t|c, Monday, 18 July 2011 13:36 (twelve years ago) link
I'd say the second half is possibly the most consistently aggressive marcus has been since the fabled Nov 2008 MC set.
― Tim F, Monday, 18 July 2011 23:16 (twelve years ago) link
splutter!
i honestly thought it was as dry as most 2011 marcus second hours - maybe leaner and meaner than average, but dry all the same.
do we have any deciding votes in the audience?

NB. "as aggressive as" does not mean "as good as" obv. There's very little recorded music as good as the Nov 2008 set.

Still that 70 min tune into that Nasty/Bassboy tune into the accordion tune is pretty rrrrrushy IMO.

miss fire posted this free ep on her twitter. includes a trc collab and the self-produced 'i can't sleep' (didn't expect this to be the bassline one).

i love the marcus bday set, esp cos mighty mo brings something extra to it - diff kind of energy to other recent sets ive heard
― titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 19:25 (twelve years ago) link
Pointless late reply - yeah I thought the Marcus 13th July set was pretty good overall, I guess the only complaint was that about 2/3rds in it seemed like every tune was banging out the same bassline. MCs were on point though. Got the podcast sitting on comp so will try and ID that 70 minute track in a bit.
― Mr Andy M, Wednesday, 20 July 2011 19:27 (twelve years ago) link
