yeah baby steps, some little suburb where you can take it round the block a couple of times.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link

When I was in San Francisco me and my friend hired bikes with the intention of riding to Muir Woods and back across the bay on the ferry. We made it as far as a pub in Sausalito across the GG Bridge. On the way back we accidentally nearly rode with the traffic onto the bridge and were only prevented from a likely messy death by a police car's megaphone.

So, umm, yeah. Don't do that.

ned, i even caught the BART on my own last week, all the way to sf and back. now i feel a little embarrassed :/

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Do not be! It's just time for more trips, is all. And believe me, the Arizmendi food is worth the journey! It's just a half-block up from the stop, IIRC.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

RR - you should do what Ned suggests! Give yourself plenty of time to do it.

I was freaked out the first time I went to a movie in a theater after I had 4lex. It had been years. I had forgotten how to go buy a ticket!

The thing to remember is this: the world is set up so that really dumb people can get along just fine. You're not dumb. You just have to do some of these things a few times so that they feel familiar.

wow, that is the greatest piece of advice I've ever heard!

Beating up the usher and stealing popcorn didn't help your case much.

WELL I WAS HUNGRY

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 17:30 (fifteen years ago) link

This is a safe place. We don't tolerate violence here, Sara.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Don't worry; you're all safe. I have plenty to eat.

Ned scares me more than he used to.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 22:42 (fifteen years ago) link

I like his dark side! It's adorable.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:04 (fifteen years ago) link

Dark sides should surely not be adorable. Does that not defeat the point a tad?

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 00:23 (fifteen years ago) link

You men have no imagination.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 00:43 (fifteen years ago) link

Now Sara, with the utmost respect, you know that's just not true. ;-)

^^^ should have an accent aigu over the e, but I'm profoundly retarded about how to make accents appear.

Ned scares me more than he used to.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 02:41 (fifteen years ago) link

Isn't this where you say, "go and sin some more?"

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 05:35 (fifteen years ago) link

My minions do that for me.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 06:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Alt Gr - E

Mark C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 13:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Can you explain that some more? I have always wanted to now how to do the accent thingy.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:00 (fifteen years ago) link

you can also use alt codes - like alt + 0233 but it has to come from a number pad, not from the top row number keys.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Dark sides can be adorable. Please see Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:10 (fifteen years ago) link

é

oh! it workéd! magical!

thanks, téhrésa.

(having no idéa what Gr méans, i did not try your vérsion, mark c.)

lxy, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:12 (fifteen years ago) link

i find it much easier on macs where you just press another key in conjunction with the letter you want to accent. it's more intuitive than code memorizing.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Sü®é îß!

remy bean, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Alt Gr is (on my Windows keyboard at least) immediately to the right of the space bar. Just press that in conjunction with E and you get é!

Mark C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:20 (fifteen years ago) link

sauté.

Murchieé

from alt0233

aimurchie, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:23 (fifteen years ago) link

å∫ç∂´ƒ©˙ˆ∆˚¬…µ˜øπœ®ß†¨√∑≈¥Ω≤≥÷“‘«…æ–≠¡™£¢∞§¶•ªº––≠

those are all the fun things i can get by typing down the alt/option key on the g4

remy bean, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 15:26 (fifteen years ago) link

saute - no, I don't have an alt gr key i guess.
But I just pressed a lot of keys that I usually ignore and disdain, so this has been a worthwhile journey for me, at least.

There's a windows key!

Nathan Fillion is so my hero. Okay, maybe him as Mal in Firefly is my hero, but you get the idea. (Also, I believe that John is our Jayne)

I must try these accent things.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

i am so bored today (shocking).

e-mail is happening tonight. i swear.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

You people all have PCs, don't you. Bastards.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, so, ON A MAC, you have to hit Option/Alt and then hit "e" key twice, but the second time you let up on the "option" key. It's very hard to coordinate for people with my limited brain capacity.

éé

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

(A. just patiently explained this to me.)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

you just option and E on this mac right here!

éééééééééééééééééééééééééééééé

I know, right?, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

see, i have mac at home and that is way more intuitive to me, because the keys you press correspond to the sign you want rather than randomly assigned numbers. i am on a laptop pc at work and i don't know how to make the accents because there's no number pad.

tehresa, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link

At the hospital, it's all PCs, so along with trying to learn how to chart on the computer, I'm having to learn stuff like "what does RIGHT CLICK mean." I feel ridiculous.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 16:58 (fifteen years ago) link

you can right click on mac, too.
