very quotatious (tehresa), Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:19 (fifteen years ago) link

ha, I was supposed to go shopping today with Mom and sister, but impending bad weather has moved our plans to Tuesday night. I need more stuff for A. & and in total panic about what to get for 4lex. (10 year olds apparently too old for toys, too young for anything else...)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:21 (fifteen years ago) link

My 9-yr-old is getting a bit tricker. His tastes are becoming more narrow and expensive. So far he's getting a basketball hoop, mavericks tickets and a PSP memory card. He needs one other, small, gift to balance his numbers out with the girls. G nixed the Jackass movie on PSP as he thought he was too young. Srsly, a boy today can't handle jackass? Maybe it's better I'm not a parent.

I wonder if I should start a side business wrapping presents and writing people's college essays . .

Not Everyone Can Be Tupac (Susan), Sunday, 14 December 2008 21:03 (fifteen years ago) link

That business would be nearly recession-proof.

Sara R-C, Sunday, 14 December 2008 23:14 (fifteen years ago) link

so jordan finally took me to ihop today. for quite some time i had believed this mysterious 'ihop' to be a reference to an apple/mac product.

just1n3, Monday, 15 December 2008 03:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I kind of want to make a crack about how that would taste better, but I don't think I've ever been to IHOP, so I'm kind of boxed in here.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 04:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 05:57 (fifteen years ago) link

tza, don't feel bad about writing slowly. Our prof gave us a ton of time to write our giant papers, and I'm taking it all and going soooooo slow; I just feel lame. Also I am writing a "reflection" essay about the labor and delivery I saw yesterday. I really, really love this prof, but I don't know how many more reflection things I can write before I go postal.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 05:59 (fifteen years ago) link

(Part of it is that the reflections are so damned micromanaged. Answer these 5 questions! You're going to get better work from me if you let me write about what *I* think is important about "my" reflection...)

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:00 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i have to finish this and put together a powerpoint for a 15-min presentation at 7pm tomorrow but also i ahve to go to work tomorrow so oops

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 06:03 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, who needs sleep, right?

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:05 (fifteen years ago) link

hah yes and another all-nighter tomorrow weeeee!

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 06:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Wait, maybe you can work on the PowerPoint at work if it's slow? (I suppose you can't count on that...)

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:05 (fifteen years ago) link

and i am posting on ilx because i am an idiot

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 06:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Don't feel bad; earlier tonight I was literally looking at clips of the series finale of Little House on the Prairie in order to procrastinate. (Why? I have no idea. I just suddenly remembered that THEY BLEW UP WALNUT GROVE, and I had to look and see if I had hallucinated that whole thing.)

Oh. My. God. How did I miss that that was going on?!

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:11 (fifteen years ago) link

(I'm just going to blame pathophysiology and go directly into mourning now.)

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:11 (fifteen years ago) link

i might have heard something about melissa gilbert being in it too? or on broadway (i think it's transferring).

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 06:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, that would make sense... kind of. (Wait, is she playing Caroline now or something?! Maybe it makes no sense at all.)

btw, Melissa Gilbert is the only celebrity that I've been told I look like by random strangers. This is not the greatest, as my sister and I used to play Little House on the Prairie all the time as kids and we always fought about who got to be Mary, because Mary was the pretty one.

(We did agree to force my brother to portray Jack the Dog, though, so at least there was one area in which we got along.)

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:18 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah i think caroline (that's the mom, rite?). oh man rip michael landon!!!!

we also used to play little house on the prairie! esp the storyline where mary had scarlet fever and yeah i think we fought over who got to be mary, too!

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 06:19 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, what's more exciting than getting scarlet fever and going blind, while simultaneously being a pretty blond?!

Michael Landon's hair in some of the clips I saw of the later episodes is just hilarious, btw. Maybe he was just going gray, but it looked like he'd had it highlighted or frosted. The combined with the seventies curls totally made my night. (RIP, though - I really adored him when I was a kid.)

heaven needed another highway.

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 06:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I think that Highway to Heaven show was when I started finding him cloying instead of fatherly. But I suspect he was a good guy.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Gah, I feel like everything I'm writing in this reflection is trite and obvious.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 06:30 (fifteen years ago) link

i go to bed now and get up in 3 hours and print/proof then go to work and then to class and do presentation and get home at 10 tomorrow and stay up all night again oh boy!!!!

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 09:24 (fifteen years ago) link

There should be a thread a dick-measuring weather thread. ("You think yours is bad, huh?") When we went to bed, with the windows up, it was in the 60s. Now in the 40s. brr. I am unprepared without a toasty scarf or hat. ahh well, lesson learned.

It's all you Minnesotans fault. You sent this cold down here.

The high will be back up to 76 on Thursday. I really just hate the back and forth this time of year. I'm no good at layering. Saturday I was running errands and the sun burned. I was tempted to turn the A/C on in the car but settled with the window lowered.

Not Everyone Can Be Tupac (Susan), Monday, 15 December 2008 15:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Minnesotans will always have worse weather than Texas in the winter, Susan; you don't want to throw down that gauntlet!

It was 38 degrees on Saturday and I was shocked at how warm it felt. All gone now... ;_;

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:16 (fifteen years ago) link

PS to tza - I am thinking of your no-sleep, all-homework issues. The only reason I'm not there right now is that for once I have a sane professor who realizes is takes some time to write 20 pages that actually make sense.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

xpost, oh of course. Whenever they show the nationwide map on the news, I can't believe you're even alive up there.

Not Everyone Can Be Tupac (Susan), Monday, 15 December 2008 17:22 (fifteen years ago) link

When you put it that way... neither can I.

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

for a presentation she's doing, my boss asked me to xerox the hard copy of our housing application from last spring, the first page of which is a screen-cap.

there at the bottom of the screen-cap are the tabs for the windows i had open at the time: Inbox, word, gmail, TO MOLLIFY LINGJAC...

it's making me lol.

lxy, Monday, 15 December 2008 18:44 (fifteen years ago) link

ahhhhhhhahahahaha

i overslept (shocking!) and was late for work and then there was massive pressure to get something done in record time and people keep changing things last min and it's now been printed 3 times omg make up your damn minds and think of the trees, people!!!!!!!!!!

sara, i wish it was just that my prof does not understand, but in theory i am guilty. i should have been working on this project a lot sooner than i started it. part of this is me being unmotivated. another part of this is that i work pretty much full time and am taking 16 credits so sometimes things fall behind... other members of my class who are only doing 20 hr/week internships make me angry because they have time to stay home and work on things while i go to work. anyway... it will be over in 3 more all-nighters!!!!

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 18:48 (fifteen years ago) link

lxy - I love that!

tza - I think it's not even that our profs don't understand; most of them are kind of rigid in their thinking. I don't know how you are doing what you are doing in school and working. I'm overwhelmed and all I have is school (yeah, and my family, but honestly my husband has taken over everything so well that I could disappear and the worst thing that would happen is that the laundry and dishes wouldn't get done).

3 more all-nighters! YOU CAN TOTALLY DO THAT!!! (I will cheerlead you, and you will finish just to get me to stop waving my pompoms at you. WHATEVER IT TAKES)

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 19:31 (fifteen years ago) link

sara, ilu! thankig u in advance for cheerleading which is muchly needed.

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 19:56 (fifteen years ago) link

It actually helps me to know that I'm not the only person chained to their computer, you know!

I've written all of, like, 3 sentences today. Working on the functional pattern "sexuality/reproduction." Obviously one of the most important ones in postpartum care, but aaaaargh, couldn't we discuss this with our profs instead of writing a billion pages about it?!

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 20:08 (fifteen years ago) link

(maybe we don't need cheerleading, tza... maybe we need magic paper-writing drugs.)

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 20:09 (fifteen years ago) link

lol @ me sending a strongly worded email to classmates asking them to not be verbose and stick to 15 min presentation time tonight so that i can go home and get started on the rest of my work before midnight.

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 20:12 (fifteen years ago) link

hey lady, you are the medical expert - hook me up!
xpost

very quotatious (tehresa), Monday, 15 December 2008 20:12 (fifteen years ago) link

hahaha tza. "Don't go over your time, classmates! I need some rest!"

I'm no medical expert, good lord. Maybe I should read my pharmacology book more closely to see if there is such a drug.

I wrote a few sentences, but am now stuck again. Instead of being productive, I'm at ITR/ILE again... bad bad bad. But I really don't want to write about this baby's circumcision. I just DON'T!

Sara R-C, Monday, 15 December 2008 20:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Okay, I wrote it: on to "Major Concerns" and "Thinking Ahead" - and then to next functional pattern... Cognitive/Perceptual!
